6800GT Videocard problems

OK, I just bought a used Albatron 6800GT (from another forum) and I found something I don't like too much. I have my case mounted on wheels so I can roll it out from underneath the desk. I find that when I roll the case just a little that one of the monitors seems to lose a pin connection and gets a pinkish/purple tint or even a blue tint. I tried reseating the card and have it on it's own lead from the power supply. It's an Antec TruePower 550 watt, so it's not too small of a power supply.

It only does it on one monitor, but when I switch the monitor cables on the video card it will do it on the monitor it wasn't doing it on before. When I switch them back, the problem switches with it. I can make it do it by wiggling the cables coming into the vido card and it doesn't matter which one I wiggle.

To me that is saying something is wrong someplace in the wiring behind the DVI and D-sub ports. I've never had this problem before and I've had these same monitors setup in dualview in at least 4 different video cards.

Well, this is not acceptable to me so am checking around and asking people to see if anyone else has had this problem, LMK what your thinking.

The guy I bought the card from had no heat, so he shipped first and at the worst case scenario I will only be out the shipping and my time to send it back, which is what i think I should do.

Could be a slightly flaky connector, but you might want to try a new VGA cable before you replace the video card. In my experience, it's the cables that tend to go bad before the devices at either end. :p

Well, it only does it on one monitor. When I switch the monitors on the video card ports, it does it on the other monitor. All I have to do is wiggle either monitor connector where it attaches on the video card ever so slightly and I the monitor that is acting up to have either a purple tint, a blue tint, or to look normal.

It can't be the cable or the moniotr because when I switch the monitor it does it on the other monitor and it's on a different cable. It can't be the monitor either.

The video card must have a bad connector is what iIm thinking and I don't know how big a deal that is. I guess I'm afraid it could even be worse then a bad connector. That's why I'm asking for peoples input. Maybe someone else has had this problem?

I'd still appreciate opinions about this, but I've sent the seller an email and told him I want to send it back. What a waste of time.

You mean it does it on one port? Whichever monitor is on that port is the monitor with the incorrect color? I'd get the guy's phone number and ask him about it. You can tell easier if he's bullshitting you if you surprise him by calling him on the phone rather than e-mailing him. It's easy to type, "Yeah it always worked fine for me, I don't know what you did to it."

Okay, sorry, wasn't understanding fully from your original email. Yes, it sounds like the VGA output on that port is bad. To be fair, if he was using DVI from that port (or not using it at all), he might never have noticed.

Yeah, it's the VGA side that has the problem. He just answered my email and said he only used it on the DVI port and to go ahead and ship it back to him and he'd deal with the warranty.

Maybe I shopuld just wait for the 6800GS to hit the mainstream.
