6800GT ramsinks - are they necessary?

Hey folks. I recently purchased Zalman VF700 cooler, but accidentally knocked two of the blue ramsinks during the installation. Now, they lost adhesivness and won't "stick". Are these things really necessary for operation? I have AS Epoxy, but would rather not attach them permanently.
