6800GT - Power Supply

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the forums today and I have a question for all of you. I have a custom built system and I am looking to upgrade my ATI Radeon 9000 Pro to a GeForce 6800GT. I need to know if my power supply can take the load, it is a Antec True330. My specs are as follows:

Pentium 2.4C
512mb PC3200
120GB Seagate 7200RPM
10x CD-RW
16x Lite-On DVD-ROM
Onboard Audio/LAN

Welcome to the forums. 🙂

Most GT vendors reccomend a 350W PSU for the GT, however, some high quality PSUs are capable of providing enough power thru the 12V rails to run the GT stably.

Your Tru330 PSU is a pretty solid PSU, but I think it'd be cutting it a little close. Might be worth while to upgrade the PSU and get a GT, just to be safe and prepare for the future.

ok actually now I am gonna ask another question.

what power supply do you recommend? I am looking at a Antec True480Blue or is like a True430. Or those going to be good enough down the road? I figure they would be. Or is there any other brand that I should be looking at?

That is the one that I have. It is cheap 60$ for 650 watts and it handles everything I throw at it. Put as many fans and peripherials as you like and this sucker doesn't flinch or drop a tenth of a volt. Best bang for the buck. It is rated to last on average 3 and a half years. YOu should not need another upgrade before then.

your 330 is fine, no need to upgrade.

An Antec 350 or higher will do the job without a problem, but I'd try the 330 first.
