Is there a shortage of 6800GT PCI-E cards??? Whenever I find them they are almost $500!!! What gives? Are vendors doing some major Gouging on the pricing right now?

If you go to BFG Technologies www.bfgtech.com and look at the 6800GT OC PCI-E and click Buy Now you will be directed to www.chumbo.com or something and it will be $399 pre-order, This is more what I was expecting to pay for one of these. However everyone else that I've found whether it's BFG or any other brand is always $475+

Tell me this will not be the case over the next couple months because my hopes are being crushed to build a SLI system based on 2 6800GTs.

What have some of you paid for your SLI setups?

It's a brand new and high-end (read: supplies are relatively limited) card, so expect some gouging for a few more weeks.

Consider a $300 ATi X800XL, though, for a PCIe card. It stacks up nicely against even a $400 6800GT.

I guess I'm probably over-reacting. Come end of the month or Feb. prices will probably stabilize just like GAS prices right? LOL.

Yeah, I'm sure many many many people are having this problem, me included :)

Ordered everything for my new comp (first build ever!! wee!) but I have no video card to put in it :(

Thinking about buying something else to just stick in there for now so I can actually use the comp when I make it, but I dunno what the best idea would be.

At first was going to just get two 6600gt's, but quickly realized that would be a terrible idea.

Thought about one 6600gt, but I dunno if I could be happy with that until 6800gt comes into stock with lower prices (would basically be 170ish dollars just wasted also since I have nothing else to use a 6600gt pci-e in).

Another thought I had was to just buy some ati card?? As long as I don't go SLI, any pci-e card will work in the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe board, right? :)

*shrug* I'm really at a loss for what to do right now, heh. Bastards keeping supply < demand so they can suck in all the money possible. Smart business people, I hate em all ;)

Same feelings here. I just got my A8N SLI Deluxe yesterday and can't find any 6800GT PCI-e boards. I agree buying a single 6600GT would defeat the purpose of this board... with SLI you should either go all out or forget about it all together as benchmarks have shown that 2 6600GTs don't beat one single 6800. However that Gigabyte SLI on one card that does 2 6600GT cores on a single board stomps a single 6800.

I guess I'll just be patient as hard as it is to stare at this ASUS board sitting there calling to my wallet every 5 seconds. Eventually the boards will be in-stock all over the place and the prices will come down too.

Arrrrghghghghg!!!

I saw that dual core gpu before too, do you have a link if they have an estimated release date/release price?

Firingsquad reviewed it. It doesn't look impressive. A 6600GT wouldn't be a bad buy, as you could always sell it for not much less when the 16-pipe cards come down to MSRP.

Where would I sell it, here? I'm new to internet dealings, and don't really trust anyone as far as I can reach them ;p I mean, there's nothing at all stopping people from paying for something, especially in something like a forum trade, correct?

Why not Ebay and Paypal? Been with Ebay since they started and have never been ripped off on it. And if you use Paypal they are pretty dang strict about making sure people pay and deliver. But you might have to pay a small % if you sell there and use Paypal. Depending on what type of account you get with Paypal of course.

You could sell it in Anandtech's own For Sale/For Trade forum. Obviously you have to be extra cautious buying/selling online, but Heatware helps in deciding who to trust.

If selling is too much of a hassle for you, then I guess you should go straight for a 6800GT or X800XL, something that'll last a while. 6800GT will last longer b/c you'll be able to SLI it, but it'll cost more up front.

Yeah I was looking for a replacement for the 6800gt pci-e....something that would last a while, make all my games look great, and will be worth the price even if I switch to dual 6800gt's later on or something.
