I got it off ebay brand spanking new.
You gota look for the right people though so you don't get screwed over.
I see most of them ask for over 400.

Although last time I checked ATI was selling the x800xt pe @ $229.

SM3.0 won't help any current cards.

Oh yeah thats right sorry. Thats why you get good performance boosts in FEAR, Far Cry, SC:CT (assuming you dont have HDR on) and considering its going to be used heavily in next gen, I guess no one will want it.

If its not going to benefit it, might as well get a card that wont have it at all! Because frankly, JBT cannot prove that it will not benefit cards. Sure, I can't prove him wrong, but you might as well get SM3 if you can. If the 6800gt wont do well with SM3, the X800XT won't do well with Sm2. Though, if the 6800gt DOES do well with SM3 (which it should), then the X800xt is stuck with Sm2.

You're not in a losing situation considering the 6800gt is very fast anyways.

Hans, ever the Champion of SM 3.0.....for it is his destiny.

Anyway both cards have their merits and both out perform the other in different games though the x800xt come out ahead more often in the benchmarks I have seen. Basically they are both great cards so-

Out of the two cards I would just look for the cheapest 6800gt and the cheapest x800xt and buy the cheapest out of the two.

heres a good x800xt I saw eairler todayfor $250 It has a 2 year warranty

The x800xt outperforms the 6800gt. The x800xl is comparable to the gt.
The 6800gt has broken purevideo and will never have WMV acceleration, the ATI cards don't have the problem but do not have SM3.

Wait a couple weeks then get the 7800GT for ~350

Out of the 2 cards, the XT will be faster, but the 6800GT has some other features, that may prolong its life.

How long do you plan on keeping this card?

B.S. By the time Shader model 3 is the standard (remember there are millions of 1.0 and 2.0 card owners out there) that car will be low end. Delvelopers still have to make the games very scalable. The extreme majority of purchased cards out are not 3.0. Just P.R. bullsh!t.

Can't wait for the 7800GT because I have AGP only, not upgrading mobo for PCIE at this point. My A64 3200+ is fast enough for another year or so, maybe 2.

And then I might just get a mobo with both AGP and PCIE, so I see no harm in going AGP.

The card should last me 2 years preferably, at least more than 1 year.

I had seen that $250 one on TigerDirect and am thinking about buying it, since that's the general consensus. I've always preferred NVIDIA to ATI because of Digital Vibrance, but I have a separate issue with NVIDIA cards (three of them by different manufacturers) not working correctly with DVI. And I have absolutely no idea why, though reduced blanking (manually reducing it far beyond what drivers ever allow you to do) seems to fix it, indicating a bad TMDS transmitter. Couple that with the fact that the 2 ATI cards I've tried produce flawless results and I think NVIDIA is dropping the ball on DVI. Why the hell I'm the only one with this issue is beyond me, but I've tried the cards in THREE SEPARATE COMPUTERS all to reproduce the same exact flickering line. Two computers are exact mirror images of one another, the third's ONLY similarity was that the mobo was made by ASUS. P4 vs my A64 though, so go figure...
