In regards to ATI, I generally only buy the "built-by-ATI" cards. I know Sapphire has been contracted to build OEMs for them, but through alot if researching about, I've found the ones coming out of the Sapphire boxes tend to have more complaints than those coming out of retail ATI packages. This tells me that Q/A requirements may be different between the two companies. In any case, I've had no problems with BBA hardware and the 3 year warrantee is always nice. I absolutely love my X800XT PE and have no regrets getting it.

In regards overclocking, I've found that the newer ATI cards (from 9700Pro on up) tend to be a bit fragile. Some have been great overclockers, but they seem to last very long when pushed to the limit.

With the 6800 series, I've always found nVidia to keep more stringent quality requirements for their 3rd party vendors who produce the cards. For the most part, except for a few exceptions like XFX, the difference in build quality between different makes of nVidia cards is very narrow. I've never overclocked my 6800GT, but from what I've read and followed since this card was release, most should have no problems overclocking to Ultra speeds.

I love my ASUS 6800GT 256mb but be carefull not to buy the 128mb version. I'd g with Nvidia since it has more features and similar performance. Any brand Craig said is pretty good.

The X800XT has similar performance to the 6800Ultra. Assuming you overclock the x800xt and the 6800GT, I believe you will be happier with the X800XT's image quality. However, the 6800GT is cheaper than either I believe, and darn close in performance.

If it was my dollar, it would be the Ati x800xt.

Pretty much every review I've seen puts the NV and ATI image quality for this generation as neck and neck.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. When it comes to 2D and 3D, I'd say the differences are neglible either way. DVD Playback is still better with the ATI though, but not to many folks watch movies on their PC as much as I do to notice.

Sparky, I am only offering my advice as personal experience. Having seen both an X800XT and a 6800Ultra on the same PC playing the same games, to my eyes the ATI looked better in just about every application.

YMMV of course!
