6800GT or 7600GT

Hi,

I've seen lots of 7600GT benchs where they compare this new card with 6800GS ?!!?!?
But there's no benchs out comparing with the 6800GT model which compare most with the 7600GT than the 6800GS.

I'm going to buy a new one (since my 6800GS AGP is defect and need to send it to BFG). I'm hesitating between the 6800GT and the 7600GT.

Here are the specs:

6800GT:

6 vertex pipes
16 pixel pipes
350 MHz core clock
1000 MHz memory data rate
256MB of memory on a 256bit bus

7600GT:

5 vertex pipes
12 pixel pipes
560 MHz core clock
1400 MHz memory data rate
256MB of memory on a 128bit bus

One has more pipes and the memory bus his higher, the other has higher clocks with less pipes and memory bus.

So which of those 2 cards would you go with (for gaming) if they were around the same price?

I'm leaning toward the 7600GT for now but I have yet seen benchs with those two together.

Are you kidding me? Since the 7600 GT > 6800 GS and the 6800 GS = 6800 GT, use those friggin math properties. The 7600 GT is obviously the better choice.
 
On the long term aspect, can the 128bit memory bus affect the FPS in games?
And is higher clocks > then more pipes?

But ATI's image quality is better than nvidia cards. I had a 7800GT until yesterday and I replaced it with a X1900XT😀. I have seen the difference. I especially recommend the X1K cards I recommended if you can jump for those as they have high quality AF, which makes the graphics look crisper.😀
 
Wow those benches are showing exactly what I wanted to see. But I never heard about this website but it gives a good idea.

I'll consider moving to ATI. I once had a 9800PRO but I had some many issues with this card that I'm not sure about making the move again. I'll take a look anyway though.

The X1800 and X850 cards I showed you have much better coolers than that 9800 you had. And they're more robustly built and I have had no problems with my ATI so far.
 
Ok, I just check the prices (in CAD). The 7600GT is around 275CAD ans the X1800XL is around 425CAD. What I saw in the benchs of Anandtech and Tom's Hardware, the 7600GT is equal and sometime superior in FPS than the ATI, but ATI has better image quality and can do multialiasing or something like that, which NVIDIa can do but in a different way.

....well I'll check some more and decide after.

BTW, what about the X1600 series? I've heard mostly bad comments about this serie.
 
Hes in the same pickle as I am... hes from Canada. Where are you? If your near Toronto, and dont mind coming out to the GTA theres a 7900gt for $425. PM me for location.
 
Well AIW features is definitely not a must for me.

The X850XT is selling for 300+CAD here in Quebec, so for less than that I can get a 7600GT.

Well i'm tempted to make the "ATI move" now. I'll check with my friend who owns a computer shop in Quebec and see if he can throw me some nice prices 🙂
