i'm putting together a major gaming rig. however getting a video card is proving harder than I thought.

THese are my specs. AMD64FX-53, 2x512 OCZ PC3700 gold rev 3, ASUS A8V deluxe rev 2.0 mobo,
raptor 74G HD @ 10000rpm.

I have been looking for a week for a GeForce 6800 Ultra card, but cant find one. My question is:

A: Does anyone know where to get a 6800 ultra 256 card ( i am on the notify list at newegg for 530$)

B: With these high end components, do you think a 6800 GT such as XFX ultra or evga 6800 GT would suffice. I have already decided that the X800 pro and X800XT probably arent the best for my components.

any support will be appreciated, or any advice on accelerating my system for gaming, let me know!!

Thanx in advance

If you plan on only Playing Doom3 then go with the nVidia cards. For everything else the X800XT PE should go great with your system.

I had read in an earlier forum that some of the X800 cards are having problems with the 939 processors and the ASUS A8V mobo in particular, but I could be wrong

If I were in your shoes, and had enough money to burn, I'd wait till I could get an ultra. If I was making a recommendation however, I'd recommend the GT.

I'd go with the 6800GT. You won't see that much of a difference between the two just like you won't notice a difference between an x800XT and an X800XTPE. You can find the 6800GT for as low as 379.00 so price to performance I'd say it's the better buy.

If you can wait, the card to own is the Ultra. However the GT is an awesome card , and probably the best bang for your buck right now..

The X800XT PE is the fastest card you can buy, except for Doom 3. But you're going to pay for it. If you're dead set on a 6800U though, you could get a Gainward 6800 GT Golden Sample, which is warrantied to Ultra speeds.

I see you spent the money for the $$$FX-53 monster,so money shouldn't be an issue :D
So you could get a X800XT or a 6800U
It's one of the little cases where you won't be cpu limited with a 6800U and you'll see noticeable differences from a 6800GT. So if you're for Nvidia go for Ultra. You have the processing power to utilize it.

Yep, I say the golden sample is the way to go for you, it is gauranteed (and under warranty) to reach ultra speeds and are available now running for about $425 or so. Gainward makes a pretty solid card and I think you wouldn't really benefit much from OCing the ultra at least not $100 worth of a benefit!
