6800gt heatsink

Doom Machine

Senior member
been searching around for a larger heatsink for my 6800, not talkn bout the small ones for the core with a tiny fan on it, but maybe something similar to zalmans heatpipes but i want to use a fan on mine but all those require mounting holes on the board...are there any alternative mounting options or alternative heatsinks besides water cooling that cover ram and gpu?

I have the arctic cooling nvidia silencer5. It covers both the ram and gpu and exhausts warm air out the rear.

had it for awhile and its a great heatsink. keeps my unlocked, oc'd 6800 under 50C

not quite what i'm looking for, besides what i currently have keeps mine at 44C overclocked, i'm using a 120mm fan so i'm moving alot more cfm of air than what the silencer can..i just want a bigger heatsink itself, preferably a heatpiped solution with another method of mounting it cuz my board doesnt have the proper holes

What board do you have? 😕 I thought all newer boards had the mounting holes. That really limits your options if it's true that your board has no mounting holes.

If you really want an over the top solution for your 6800 a Socket-A ThermalRight SI-97
can be modded to fit your card. 😀

Post or PM if interested.

Can you give us the brand/model? That way, we can check out compatibility and such... Pretty sure all 6800GTs have the right holes. just want to know what model it is to make sure.

Evercool universal heatsink $15.99

That's what I'm using on my AGP 6800GT. It comes with a few different methods to mount and will take some figuring out. The first heatpipe cooler I tried to use was the Cooler Master Cool VIVA and that didn't fit the mounting holes. I used to have a Zalman (original gold colored one with one heatpipe) and from what I remember of how it mounted, would not have fit. I think my 6800GT is an eVGA based on the reference design.

I am thinking about using that same passive cooler on an XFX Geforce 6600(or GT) with Dual DVI, and was curious as to its weight and its effectiveness as a cooler? The system (with video card and an installed evercool passive heatsink) will be shipped(probably FedEx ground) about a thousand miles away and I was concerned about the possibility of the heatsink tearing the video card out of its socket during transit if it ways alot. Thanks for any experiences/opinions on the evercool, they would be grealy appreciated.
