I just put a system together and I'm having a problem with my new video card. My old Geforce2mx works fine.

Athlon64 3000
Chaintech ZNF3-250
Sonata case with stock 380W PSU
1 HD, 1 CDROM, 1 CASE FAN
Leadtek A400 GT
Dedicated 12v line to 6800GT

Well, the boot sequence text is all garbled. (the EPA image during boot displays fine) When it gets to Windows there is a pattern of incorrect pixels. I've tried reseating the 6800GT and memory. I've tried resetting the cmos and set it to both optimized and fail-safe defaults. I looked at the specific bios settings but am unsure as to which could help if any.

So, any ideas? Do I have a bad card?

(i'm going to update the bios as soon as i can; i have the 9/21/2004 version)

pop her into another pc that is working with other AGP cards just fine, and update the card's bios, then try, otherwise you could RMA

Also, how is the cooling in your system? Are you overclocking? It might be over heating.

I don't have another PC readily available. I will give it a try when I have the chance tomorrow. I hope it can support it. I'd hate to RMA this. *sigh*

I just installed the card. It does this from a cold boot. The leadtek heatsink and fan are supposed to have good cooling. I didn't even have time to overclock it. So, I don't think overheating is the problem.

Oh, and I can't update the bios of the card if I can't read text in DOS. (unless of course I knew the exact sequence of events)

I have a question concerning the RMA process since I've never had to go through it. Newegg offers cross-shipping for all components except CPUs but doesn't specify whether my item has been shipped to me or not. Do I have to specifically request cross shipping or is my item on it's way after I make the RMA?

My suggestion is to rma it. I had the exact same problem with my leadtek 6800 gt. I sent it back and got it replaced. Now it works just fine.

Thanks, Sabre. That reassures me since that's exactly what I did. I was wondering, though, if they automatically do cross-shipping at newegg?

I'm not sure. I got mine from gameve.com. Bad mistake. Should have waited, but NOWHERE had the geforce 6800 gt's in. Hopefully it works out for you.
