6800GT - eVGA vs. BFG

from what i've been reading the BFG looks like the better card (the majority of people leaned that way anyways), but the lowest price i've found for the BFG 6800GT OC is still $100 more than the eVGA version of the 6800GT.

i've found the eVGA version for under $300 at circuit city (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/eVGA-GeF...m/oid/99595/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do)
and also at newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130203)

the lowest price i've found the 6800GT from BFG is from best buy for $399.

the question i have is whether or not the BFG card is worth the extra hundred bucks? or has anyone found a BFG version for cheaper than $399. if i could save myself 100 bucks for a card that is pretty much the same then i'd like to do that.
 
The eVGA isn't overclocked out of the box, is it? If you don't want to overclock, the BFG would perform slightly better than a regular 6800GT because of the 20 MHz overclock on the GPU. I don't think it's a $100 difference though.

*EDIT* That $300 eVGA one on newegg also doesn't say it has 16 pipelines. There's also a ~$350 eVGA one that says it has 16 pipelines. That $300 one might be one of those "6800GT's" with only 12 pipelines.
 
nah, its the real deal. the agps are plummeting and the pci-es are cheaper too. i think the more expensive is the pci-e is all.

also, you won't notice any performance difference with the "oc" that bfg puts on it. if you sneeze the evga might clock to that by itself anyway, lol.

anyway, no way is the price premium worth it

Didn't even occur to me to look for AGP or PCI-E. 🙂 You're right though, the more expensive one is PCI-E.

i think most are aware of it but it just isn't a factor for most, well me anyway. i doubt i'll see the end of evga 2 year.
 
just looked at the new best buy ad for the week, and yup, the BFG 6800GT is on sale - for $339.99 after rebates. so the BFG isn't worth spending an extra $100 for, but is it worth spending an extra $40 for the lifetime warranty and the OC?
 
yes, indeed. some warranties cost way mor efor 2 years, but this one is life time. this card will last you until it breaks, then you can send it back when it craps out.
 
I'd get a Leadtek 6800GT for 299 from Newegg. But I would also wait for the G70 to be released tomorrow... to see if any prices drop.
 
I've had great experience with eVGA. I'll probably trade up to a 7800GTX in the next few weeks, depending on supply.
