I think so anyways. On the monitor it says no video input and the motherboard diagnostic display on my MSI Nforce 3, says the computer has booted normally.

Yesterday, I had the same problem but it magically worked. Later, I would get garbage display once windows booted, then I would get no display once Windows booted. The I reinserted the card...And now no video at all.

Is it definately the video card? 🙁


edit: the monitor works fine with other PCs and Ive checked all the connectiions.

Have you tried putting a different video card in your pc? Try booting up in VGA mode. To do this, turn the pc on, and before the Windows loading bar comes up, rappidly push F8 until a menu appears, and select VGA mode. This will run your video card in the most compatible mode possible.

It does not post at all...I ll have to try another graphics card to know for sure.
 
I see. Definately try another video card. Perhaps you will be able to RMA or get it replaced under warrenty?
 
Try the 6800 in another computer (just make sure that computer has a 300watt psu and connect the molex to the GPU as well).

Next thing you could try is reseating ram & video cables, clear CMOS to make sure your motherboard isn't acting up etc.
 
If you have a PC speaker linked up its should kick out a series of beeps which you can then take to your motherboard manual and look at the key to what it is releated to. Make sure the video card is installed first. If it boots ok you know the video card is borked.

I havent had it overclocked since Sept 2005...Infact I just came back from a month long yesterday. It worked fine the all of yesterday.

The motherboard diagnostics say its booting up fine.

No waranty. It had 10 months when I bought it in November 2004. Installed NVSilelencer Jan 2005. Overclocked it to Ultra speeds Feb 2005- Sept 2005. Only lasted 18 months. That sucks for a $400 card. Hell, I don't even need an upgrade 🙁

Tommorrow im going to find another video card to test. I tried clearing the CMOS to no effect.

Also, check and see if your PSU is on it's way out. Taking out two sticks of memory lessens the power usage (albeit very little) and may have delivered enough power to your vid card without the two extra sticks of mem. Longshot? Sure why not. But worth looking into.

I had tried dcing the hard disk and DVD disk but it still wouldnt boot. I guess Nforce 3 boards arent really good with 4 sticks of RAM..
 
check PSU FTW, my cousins 6800GT was presumably dead too... however they swtiched from a 450w bargain psu (with higher amperage on +12V rail) to a 350w Enermax... and it would work on the enermax

quality over wattage!
 
So I installed older 81xx drivers, disconnected the DVDROM, installed only one stick of RAM. And now it wont even boot to windows.

Edit: Boots into windows. Causes random errors and restarts. And the dsiplay is corrupted. Safe mode works fine. It apparently worked fine before I installed video drivers after I tried a clean install. 🙁

I even tried underclocking the COU and RAM.

I dont want to buy a $70 PSU to check is a 200$ card has died. 🙁 My current PSU is a generic low quality one. I used to have no problems until my Antec PSU died a few months back. Even after that, I think this card ran stable for a while. 6800GT is a year and a half old.
 
good quality does not cost 70$ ... u can get good ones for 40$... if u can maybe a friend has a hq psu.. u can try using his to see if it works

when the video card is unpowered the display will be corrupted.. safe mode being fine doesnt show that ur psu is not the problem

once u rule out the psu then u can target your video card

Whatever you end up doing you'll be needing a better psu anyway, so grabbing a new one is a "no-lose" proposition... certainly worth a try before spending hundreds on a new GPU... further if you read your own thread you actually hit on the most likely answer yourself: "My current PSU is a generic low quality one. I used to have no problems until my Antec PSU died a few months back".

It is possible that the cheapo psu has damaged your GPU, but its more likely the other way around.

When it comes to branded PSUs, you can see I dont have much choice and its ****** expensive. $1 = Rs60. Im thinking of selling my current rig as I donot have any more time for heavy games. I guess Ill have to take the GPU to a retailer and ask him to test it out...Im running out of patience now and I donot have a spare PSU or AGP motherboard. 🙁

The computer was running fine albeit with a few very rare glitches until I left for a month long vacation. Once I came back, these video problems started. 🙁
 
I reformated yet again. I did not install the chipset drivers and straightaway nstalled the 6800GT drivers. The problem seems to be gone now. Drivers for the built in ethernet and "PCI bridge device" arent loaded. What is the PCI bridge device? Does it have anything to do with the AGP slot?

edit: all drivers except ethernet loaded...success. Ill run a few 3D apps before installing ethernet drivers. The ethernet port had been giving some problems before also. (like random rare lockups when the wire was plugged in. And then sometimes it wouldnt reboot until i dced the wire)
