I have noticed recently my 6800gt has been cack. I have an AMD3500+, 1 gig RAM and a 256mb 6800gt. When I first got it it was perfect, ran BF2 nicely, ran CS and ran WoW all high with 60fps+. But now I can't play Bf2 on all Low, in counter-strike when there's smoke or alot of action my fps drops and in World of Warcraft I keep getting drops to 20fps which I never got before. I managed to realise it could be to do with my GPU temperature which when I first got the card was around 40 idle and 60 load but now is about 110 load and 80+ idle.

I am wondering what should I do? Open side of PC and blow fan in? I would take out my GFX card but Im not good with assembling, desembling PCs and am scared I would damage it and I would also buy a new GPU fan but I dont konw hjowe to put it on e.t.c

Edit; sorry pic came out small, the figures are:

Core Slowdown Threshold: 120 C

GPU Core temp: 109c
Ambient temp : 76c

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated :)

sounds like my exact rig, minus my now 2gig of ram.

first of all, you have to clean out that HSF every few months. it gets so clogged the temps jump up. I drop about 25deg C everytime i clean it, no lies.

Also, aside from that, performance can be affected by other things that might be running in the background (spyware/adware/trojan - and even legit programs you've installed over time). Check those out before you run the games, and DEF clean that HSF on the card, you have to take off the cover its some really small screws but its not a problem.

"GPU Core temp: 109c " <- That's a problem! Not sure if these things down-clock under high temps, but regardless - It's running way too hot.

Also, your ambient is REALLY high - What are your CPU temps, becuase it could be affecting it -> Throttling.

that screenshot is so small you cant see Sh!t. Try cleaning out the dust from it you should always about 2 a year or how ever often you want clean out the dust in your computer. I use a Hair dryer on the cool setting to blow the dust out.

Those are some awful temperatures, and almost definitely the source of your problems. A 6800GT should idle between 50 and 60C and underload it shouldn't get much above 80. I know it says 120 or something insane as the threshold, but you'll get problems anywhere near 100. Definitely clean out the heatsink of the graphics card, I do it to mine once a month.

The rest of the temps make it seem like you are either in a hot room without an A/C or there is very little ventilation going on in your case.
