6800GT and power connector question.

I have a XFX 6800GT that has the power connector (molex) on the side. My gigabyte mobo also has a place directly next to the AGP slot labeld "AGP 12V". Does it matter which one I coonect it to? Surely I don't have to have both connected.

Are you sure it's not labeled ATX 12V? If so, you do need it plugged in for power to the motherboard. The ATX 12V connector is a square 4 pin connector arranged 2 X 2, not 4 in line.

You definitely need the connector on the video card plugged in.

What motherboard model?

The information on that link provided hints at it not being appropriate. It states "if your AGP VGA card has extra power connector, please connect the proper power cable the power supply provides later."

So, by what that says, it sounds like you need to connect a power supply lead to your video card, and not use the connector on the motherboard.

Does anyone else interpret it this way?

Okay, so the AGP 12V connector on the mobo is only used for AGP pro cards. Filing that away for future posters.

They sure are trying to confuse everyone these days with the power connectors. 😀

Gentle, that is how I interpret it. Connect power to the card for regular AGP cards, not to the AGP 12V connector.

If you are using an AGP Pro card, then connect power to the AGP 12V connector on the mobo.

This is only going to apply to boards with AGP pro slots, so it may not come up often.

This is also my interpretation. Kinda strange, I have not seen that mobo connector on any other AGP pro boards, did I just miss it?
