Hi everyone,

I am currently running a P4 2.8 and a geforce 3(lol) which definitely needs an upgrade for newer games (CS:S to be specific). My question is, would it be worth it to spend roughly $400 to get a 6800GT AGP, or to start looking at the pci-express cards for the future? Doing so would require me to get a new motherboard, etc. so I'm not sure on what the best idea would be. I keep thinking if i spend 400 on a 6800GT, then it will be a waste since I am going to most likely upgrade my cpu/mobo/video card in the next 6 months.

Suggestions/opinions would greatly be appreciated.

If you want to go all out with a new mobo, cpu, and graphics card I would just upgrade to nforce 4 with pci express. Best for gaming and very futureproof.

Future "Resistant" would be a little more PC. :)

pcie. at this point in time it'd be foolish to get a agp card.

thats what i believe and what i'm doing personally. within a year agp cards will be scarce.. what will determine this is that all major OEMs will be using PCIE and not just dell like it is today.

further proof that OEMs will influence this more than anything is the near zilch availabilty of PCIE 6800GT/Ultras.. they're gobbing them up. now, i dont know how to explain the great pcie 6600GT selection.. other than they are less desirable to everyone.

im looking at a NF4 SLI board and a single 6600GT or 6800GT with a 3000+.. all those parts have a great price for the performance.

if you are really tight on money you could get a high end agp card now for a decent price (like the agp 6800gt) but in all honesty, if you are that low on money to not be able to afford a whole new PCIE supporting system, i'd wait till you get a promotion or save up more money.

with pcie now a reality for both "camps" (intel/amd), and knowing it will be the future for a very long time.. i think it'd be foolish to do otherwise. gl!

if you dont wanna drop too much money i would oc the crap out of your 2.8, maybe to 3.5 or so, can be done on air. Then drop 150 for a used 9800pro. That will be a sweet upgrade for 150 bucks, and very good for source.
