How would a 6800 128meg with the 16 pipes / 6 vertex enabled be compaired to a 6800GT 256meg card overall ?

Worth saving the extra $$'s ?

Your thoughts .......

No because the 6800GT has GDDR3 and its stock clock speed is 1000 mhz as opposed to the 6800's 700mhz memory. The best overall card for the money is the 6800GT. See if you can get a CompUsa to pricematch Best Buy's ad for 25% off PNY cards to get a 6800Gt for $300 like I did.

I like my 6800nu, it hit the price point I wanted for the performance. No doubt the 6800GT it beefier, but I run my games with the settings I want right now without a hitch. CSS runs @1280x1024 with 4 AF and 2AA at around 80fps average. Highs well into the hundreds, low's above 50. Not to shabby. Oh and btw this is with the masked hardware enabled, made a HUGE difference.

Well, off the FS/FT forum I'm getting a BGF 6800 ( that can enabled 16 pipes / 6 vertex ) for $250.00 so the moneys spent at this point. I game at 1152x864 with a 19" CRT.

But, like my question , how well will a 6800 ( as mentioned above ) compare to the 6800GT in your view. I know that overall the GT is better but with the ability to unlock via software how much closer do I get to the GT ?

Enabling the extra pipes and vertex is not what helps improve performance. It is all core and memory speeds

So what does enabling the extra pips and vertex do for ya then ? anything of value ? or does it just show a bit better in the 3Dmark software ?

Thanks.

say whatever you will, in the games I play it makes a HUGE difference. Enough so that if it weren't for the pipes and vertex shaders added I wouldn't be satisfied with my frame rates.

It makes a difference of course. I will behave almost like a real 6800GT except when there is a need of more frembufer or memory bandwich. In that moment it will be limited and the real 6800GT will shine. I'd go with the 256mb 6800GT since newer games are starting to use more than 128mb when AA/AF is enabled.

Well can't argue with that, I could really use some more memory bandwidth as I play at 1280x1024. Nice to have some IQ turned up in CSS, but right now I'm limted to 2AA 4AF.
