Yeah so the 6800gs is at a nice price of $210 right now.
Seems a little to good to be true considering it's performance is almost identical to it's $280 "competitor". (the GT)
As I am looking into getting one for Christmas, but there's the possibility that I won't...I am worried the prices on this thing are going to fly after the holidays. (fly up I mean).
I am interpreting this as a temporary way to steal sales from the 1600xt when it comes out and than after the initial rush is over just pop the prices up to the $270 area around where the GT was. Especially if they stopped making GT's now.

So what are your thoughts? Will prices sore? Should I push to get one at Christmas or is it safe to wait until Feb. (my birthday)?

It would be pointless for them to raise the prices when a 7800GT can be had easily for around $320. I'm sure they'll only go down. ;)

Prices will go up some as stock gets low, this is a limited time only thing.

Of course you could buy my GT OC'd to 430/11xx for way less than $280 ;)

Just wait for black friday and get it for dirt-cheap (overly optimistic here).
I don't think it'll go up in price, especially that the X1600XT is priced @ 200$ now.

I think that they are going to go down alot since the new 512mb 7800gtx everything lower than that is going to lower in price and eventually the 512mb 7800gtx is going to. It would be a good idea to wait for the 7800gt to go down in price.

they sold me. i'm buying one. it's cheaper because it isn't the same core as the 6800gt (only 12 pipes. 4 simply aren't there which. manufacturing a 12 pipe card is apparently cheaper) and it uses the pcb of a 7800.

I think the price is about right. After the holidays NVIDIA will probably release the 7600 at a price and performance between the 6800GS and the 7800GT.

Right now the GS is not taking any sales from the 1600XT because you can't even buy one.

My guess....

6200XX - $100
6600GT - $150
6800GS - $200
7600GT - $250
7800GT - $300
7800GTX - $450
7800GTX512 - $550

I bet if the GTX's were not selling so well the price would drop by about $50-$100. Maybe after the holidays once all the early adopters and christmas shoppers are out of the way.

Re. Tard. Ed?

It's the day after Turkey Day, and we haven't had Turkey Day yet, have we?

I was uncertain.

That's. Why. I. Said. It. So. Slow?

I was confused as to when Black Friday was, saw a ton of deals popping up, but some passed.. yadda yadda, ask my coworkers and they said it was last week, sister confirmed it, but smart gf said it's the day after thanksgiving.

So the general consensus here is that prices won't go up negatively after the Holidays, and they might possibly even go down...
The 7600gt is scheduled for a Feb. release which is when my birthday is, so I don't know how that would affect the price of the GS.

Also, someone mentioned waiting for the 7800gt to go down in price? When do you think it will be down to 200? I don't think soon, and that's kind of what i want to spend... oh well.

Black Friday sounds good though... :)

Also the 7800GS is supposed to be coming out but no knowledge of exactly when. I would think a price of $200-$250 after prices settle down upon release.

NVIDIA roadmaps confirm that even though GeForce 6800 GS will reach sub $190 levels by the end of the year, the product will not actively be continued.

That gives me hope! Direct quote from an Anandtech article on the 7800GS.

Which arises the question...is there really going to be a 7800gs?
Personally I don't think there will be, at least for a good length (maybe just release it for a month or two similar to the 6800gs).

But as long as 6800GS prices drop I am happy. :)
