6800GS Wide screen support, no love for max resolution

I already bought a evga 6800GS pci-e, I think I kind of rushed my decision, I don't even do intensive gaming either, if any at all lately. I did want to get into it and prepare my machine for it, but I won't even consider quake 4 until things slow down in life and I can wait for the price to drop a little bit more.

With that out of my system, I went to evga's site and noticed that the max resolution on this card is only 1600x1200. Now, I don't plan on using that resolution for applications(I'd need a magnifying glass), but what do I do if I want to get something like a Dell 2005FPW or a 2405FPW??

Dell resolution specs:

2405FPW: 1920x1200
2005FPW: 1680x1050

(yes, I already looked at the compability list that dell has...showed the 6800GT, base, and ultra, but no GS.)

Can anyone confirm/clarify the compability/effectiveness of the 6800GS on these screens(definately planning on getting either or...unless I have to opt for a Dell 2001FP)??

No, the max resolution on a 6800GS should be 2048x1536@75Hz. So it will have no problem with either display you mentioned. Though gaming wise, it will have trouble running at the native resolution of 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 in most recent titles . . .

1600x1200 is probably listed as the max resolution over DVI (analog should be 2048x1536, as has been said)...even so, 1680x1050 is less pixels than 1600x1200, and reduced blanking interval will usually (almost always, it seems) let you run 1920x1200 on a standard single-link DVI connection anyway.

He's talking about the max DVI resolution.
Anyways, the absolute max resolution for the 6800GS is 2458x1536 @ 85Hz(you have to use custom resolution in nview to get it to show up though, and yes, most high end 21" monitors can scale to this resolution)

Back to the OP question, when stating the max resolution, only the vertical resolution matters. It can sync to any other horizontal resolution. So 1600x1200 means it could also use 1920x1200, and 2133x1200. You just have to set it in the custom refresh rates.

first and foremost, a big thanks to everyone who posted!

yes, I certainly have been keeping the step-up program in mind...just hope the price of a 7800gt goes down considerably by that time. If I could go back, I would've actually gotten a 6600GT because I don't need that much power, and I think it would have lasted me for over a year, and then I could upgrade to something highend. Oh well. We'll see what happens, but thanks again all, for responding, really shined some light.
