6800GS vs. ATI X1xxx series

I currently have a Sapphire X800 GTO2, I haven't flashed it yet, but it is the unlockable version (bought a few months ago). I am setting up a HTPC, and will be doing some gaming. After doing some research, it appears that the LCD TV I am going to purchase has a native res of 1366x768. ATI cards pre-X1xxx cannot provide 1:1 pixel mapping, since they only allow adjustments of increments of 8 pixels, so I am stuck with either 1360x768 or 1368x768, not ideal. Most people over at avsforum say that the nVidia cards will allow 1366x768 res, and someone posted that the Powerstrip site says all 6 and 7 series NV cards, as well as the newer ATI X1xxx cards will allow this res as well.

Since I will be doing some gaming, well I will only play Counterstrike Source, but will try other games, I am leaning towards selling my card for a 6800GS. But for some reason I get the feeling that I am missing something with the newer series of cards, such as the 7 series NV cards or X1xxx ATI cards. The only option now for ATI is the X1600XT, which doesn't seem to be performing that well, but is probably enough for me to play CS:S.

My question is, am I losing out on new technology going with the 6800GS? Does the X1xxx series cards, or 7 series NV cards offer something the older 6800 series doesn't for HTPC use? I know that it has been noted the 6 series will get drivers to allow for h.264 decoding, but is there something on the newer cards I should hold out for?

EDIT: OH yeah it should also be pointed out I am leaning towards an NV card anyway, since the drivers and multi-monitor support seem to be so much better for my usage. Previously to this GTO2 I had a 6800nu.

At 1366x768 the 6800GS will be just fine and it will give you the benefit of Purevidoe for HD content. I use a 6600GT in my HTPC and I'm very happy with it. NVIDIA provides a lot of resolution options in it's control panel plus excellent TV support.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Just making sure there wasn't any huge tech improvement in the newere series of cards I am missing out on. Time to try and sell this GTO2 card then.

Does anyone know when the NV drivers that allow 6xxx cards to do h.264 come out? Has it come out yet?

at that res you will not see a benefit of the GS card. The X1600 series cards have very good video playback options (the best infact) but overall it would not be that different from a Nvidia card.
