6800GS SLI?

Anyone done this yet? seems like it would be a pretty good deal, i've seen single 6800GS's do 6k in 3dm05. dual could probably do at least 9k.

You keep saying this, but the 6800GS SLI will beat one 7800GT at most new games, sometimes by a lot.

Not a bad guess, of course, these ones are overclocked, but they score really high...

wow. thats pretty impressive. the $400 6800GS setup beat the $500 or more 7800GTX 512 setup.

Edit: ok, so really only in the synthetics, but it was darn close in everything else. well worth seriously considering.

I didnt say they wouldnt did i? i said it would be better off to go with the gt because a 7800gt can be found for $270 these days and the cheapest ive seen a gs is $200, running you $400 in Sli. Which you think would be worth the 1-2 fps difference in most games except for fear,quake 4(actually its more like only quake 4 with a 40fps diff)? And if he were to spend $130 more for sli gs for such a small increase why wouldnt he spend $500 for 2x7800gt's for a huge performance boost which would undeniably outperform any single card on the market. Which even if he didnt want to pay for now he could add the second sometime later. I kno you favor sli rollo but im not here to diss it, however in this case with 2x6800gs vs 7800gt its clear that a 7800gt would be the way to go. Also you dont make sense when you say i keep saying this? Meaning i keep saying this or people in the forums in general? please be more specific next time.

If we didn't just have this same discussion a couple days ago, my apologies/mistake.

You're right in that the 7800GT is the bang for buck choice, but two 6800GS is the framerate choice.
(and $100 more)

To some, the higher minimum fps would be worth it.

I don't know if this is BS or not, but this is what a customer reviewed on NewEgg's website after purchasing two XFX 6800GS' SLI.

"Pros: Great video cards. I ordered two of these for SLI setup and was able to get over 10,000 in 3D Mark05 with a ABIT Fatality AN8 SLI with a 3700+ SD. Has ran Quake4, FEAR and Prince of Persia TT flawlessly."

Cons: None.

Wouldn't the 6800GS SLI be more of a competitor to the 7800GTX 256 MB than the 7800GT?

I would take that with grain of salt. These guys also only get 7779 out of a 7800GTX 512 in 3DMark05. I'm really not sure how they accomplished this.

IMO, if I was considering a 6800GS SLI rig I would go with a single 7800GT or GTX for now, and SLI a second one in the future. Either that, or you could hop on this $440 AMIR X1800XT.

A single high current gen card performs about the same as dual 6800GS at roughly the same pricepoint (+/-$50), and you get the additional benefits of either transparent AA or AAA, which the 6800GS doesn't have.

neweggreviews are crap, worthless that's why they have a disclaimer that says something along the lines of reviews are for promotional purposes only. they deny many negative reviews and allow many incredulous reviews.

Hope this helps ==> 2x6800GS roughly = 2x6800GT, so...all stock cards:

Far Cry - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 56.5
7800GTX 256mb = 48.2
X1800XT = 65.2
7800GTX 512mb = 64.1

Splinter Cell: CT - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 49.4
7800GTX 256mb = 41.5
X1800XT = 47.4
7800GTX 512mb stock = 55.1

HL2 - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 74.6
7800GTX 256mb = 82.8
X1800XT = 80.6
7800GTX 512mb stock = 88.2

Doom 3 - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 65.3
7800GTX 256mb = 51.9
X1800XT = 53.7
7800GTX 512mb stock = 67.7

Chronicles of Riddick - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 52.5
7800GTX 256mb = 51.0
X1800XT = 34.5 (ouch)
7800GTX 512mb stock = 70.0

FEAR - 1280x1024 4AA/16AF (Softshadows OFF)
6800GT SLI = 54.0
7800GTX 256mb = 43.0 (ouch)
X1800XT = 60.0
7800GTX 512mb stock = 53.0

Call of Duty - 1024x768 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 44.1
7800GTX 256mb = 38.0
X1800XT = 43.6
7800GTX 512mb stock = 44.0
*Note: wow we really do need next generation cards.

3dMark 05 - 1024x768 noAA/noAF
6800GT SLI = 9438
7800GTX 256mb = 7767
X1800XT = 8821
7800GTX 512mb stock = 9335

But I have a slight problem with those scores since you are not stressing the cards and you'll be using AA/AF in the real world. Then,

3dMark05 - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
6800GT SLI = 4697
7800GTX 256mb = 4764
X1800XT = 5522
7800GTX 512mb stock = 6105

These scores actually help to reflect reality better: 7800GTX 512mb > X1800XT > 7800GTX = 2x6800GTs

Anyways, I would get X1800XT from the link nitromullet posted. However, you might want to wait 2 more weeks for R580 if you are going to spend $500 on a graphics card setup because R580 for $499 will blow the doors off any of these options here.

As much as I love multi-gpu solutions, I have to agree that within a few weeks (and possibly a few more after that for the other vendor's cards), there will be a lot more interesting options at a $400 price point than 2x 6800GS/GT.
