My rig:

AMD64 3200+ venice
1gig Corsair VS
eVGA 6800gs @ 500/1150

So my first question is this: When I start up F.E.A.R. with 1024*768 max settings except no AA or FSAA I get some strange stutters. Like when I turn a corner and look into an area I haven't seen before it stutters quickly. After 5-10 minutes this goes away and it's all smooth. My "test" results in the game flyby thing is average fps of 70, never under 25 and max 140. In this demo I see the "stutters" once or twice too, like when the first shot is fired.

So I am wondering what this is all about, if its still loading some stuff at that point or w/e, someone please help me on that. :)

My last question is about OCing my 6800gs. Currently I am running the standard drivers (come with the card) and am getting around 500/1150 stable, except I will see one or two black spots on people (artifacts right?) that are high poly in FEAR (norton, and other main characters).

My temps are idle 37C and under load ~60C. These are fairly decent right?

So what I am wondering is why when I push this too say 505/1200 or something around there do i get extreme black spots on things? It's weird though because I only get it on the large sea serpent and ship at the end of the 3dmark05 test and on high poly characters in FEAR. I've checked my temps at these points and they still remain at around 60. Artifacts are normally caused my overheating right?

If someone can point me in the right direction as far as how to get better OC's (drivers or something i guess) i would be grateful. lol.

I get the same thing in FEAR. I think it's the way the level loads into system RAM. I don't think it has anything to do with graphics performance (I get the same stutters at the beginning without AA enabeled and with 2x AA...so I just leave it at 2xAA and after a few minutes, it's smooth as silk.) Your temps are awesome if your GS is AGP...if PCIe, they're normal. I get 55C idle 80C load, which seems to be normal for the AGP 6800GS, but would of course be smokin hot for the PCIe 6800GS (different cores). The BFG stock cooler isn't too good, but it's stable with the extra pipelines unlocked and overclocked to Ultra speeds, so I'm not complaining.

Im running a PCI GS.

Thanks for the info though, i was really annoyed at it, and the first time I played i turned everything down thinking that my comp couldn't run it. Took me a little while to realize that the stutters went away, and after that I am running fine with max settings.

Yeah I am running completely stock cooling (stock superlanboy case as well) so I am pretty happy with my temps.

I just don't really get why I am popping so many black textures at the end of the 3dmark05 test and on high poly characters in fear, when OCing. If my temps are normal, i dunno..

One thing for general FEAR performance, if you haven't done it already, turn soft shadows off.

Defrag hard drive, then delete your virtual memory (or move to a different drive). Then create virtual memory again. Set it at 1024 minimum 1512 max.

Also try reducing your audio settings, that can help.

Have fun with the game. Make sure you keep your eyes open, Alma pops out at the most unexpected times.

EDIT: As far as OCing...artifacts and temperatures don't always go hand in hand. Your temps are good, but if you're starting to see artifacts try turning down core and memory seperately until you find the sweet spot.

I just reformatted (cause I just built my comp) so I suppose it's just a thing with FEAR...I dont really mind it goes away after 5 min.

and I already beat fear, but thanks anyway, have the time i did miss it when she popped out and I would just see the "unknown origin" on my noise detector thing.

GREAT game though.

Yeah I am still working on my sweet spot, just wondering if my temps were good or bad.
