6800gs question

I am getting a eVGA 6800gs (pci-e) and my setup is:

CPU: 3200+ Venice
RAM: Corsair VS 2x 512mb
MOBO: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

Two Questions.

1.) How does the eVGA 6800gs OC? I know that the XFX "X X X" version or whatever OC's from it's pre OC'd (485/1100) state to a nice ~ 509/1300. I am assuming they are both pretty much the same cards..just one is factory OC'd. Nothing that we can't do at home right?

2.) If I could potentially OC my GS to like 500/1300ish speeds would my system be bottlenecked by my CPU at 2.0ghz (3200+ venice)?

A single 6800gs will not be cpu limited by an A64 in any modern game, unless you play at 640x480 resolution. At higher resolutions and image quality settings the gfx card is the limiting factor.

Alright I just wanted to make sure.

Now I just need to know if the eVGA GS can OC to what the XFX could.

http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=79674

A thread on another forum where card was not modded and achieved 509/1300 and pretty much aced FEAR on max settings (full AA) and 1280 x 760 res. It also cooked normal GT's and Ultra's benchmarks in 3dmark.

I am hoping to get performance similar to that out of my card, I just want to know if it's feasible on the eVGA before I buy it.

YMMV no two cards will OC alike, i have a XFX 6800GS 485/1100, the core tops out @540 for me, that's where i do my benches at, but the memory won't budge past 1210mhz...i usually run it @515/1180mhz.

What does YMMV mean?? lol

But yes I know that they are all different and won't OC alike.

But I am asking if the XFX 6800gs and eVGA 6800gs are actually different cards, not like manufactured in a different week so they have different OCing capabilities, but since the XFX is pre OC'd is it a modified chip or something? Or if assuming that my card had average OCing capabilities (evga) it would easily be able to reach 485/1100 and then above?

I hope u get what i mean. :)

Your Mileage May Vary....all 6800gs PCIe use the 110nm NV42 core, but memory i'm not sure about. i guess that depends on the vendor. i'm sure that the EVGA will easily do 485/1100, since these cards tend to be very good OCers. EVGA 6800gs 490/1100

Meh I will just get the cheaper one if they are "the same cards".

I can just OC it up to and past that.

I think.

I am getting all hyped up to order my card, cutting and replacing the grills on my case for more airflow, copying all my progs to CD's and er, getting my 100% legit copy of Windows (because u see I have *misplaced* my original). Pretty sweet, hope this card OC's nicely.

EDIT:

http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/video/evga6800gs-pcie/index_5.shtml

He got it OC'd (eVGA 6800gs, stock everything) to 500/1150. I think that tops a 7800gtx and if we look the benchs are darn close to a 7800gtx (little below because of the 12 pipelines etc.).

*orders card*
