I can't find a 6800GS AGP version under 200 anywhere, other than the PNY. I definitely am not spending more than 200 for a videocard. I can't decide between this and the x800xl at tigerdirect, but that is also made by a company I'm not too sure about (Gecube). AGP is dead :(

I've read good reviews about the geCube.

Check these out:

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/video/r430-3.html

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=1246&redirect=yes

http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=1545

And for benchmarks look at this:

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/digest3d/index0511.html

Seems like the x800 xl AGP beat the 6800GT AGP (not GS, if not mistaken, the GT is better than the GS) most of the time and was neck and neck with the 6800 Ultra AGP.

So if geCube is a solid company and they seem to be, then I think I'm buying it! The x800 xl definitely out performs the x800gto, so I'll spend the $10 more for the x800 xl.

My *only* concern is the quality of the manufacturer. Sapphire is proven good.

Just found this on PNY's website:

PNY Graphic Card Warranty
The following PNY graphic card products are covered by PNY's one year* warranty:
Verto GeForce 7800 GTX
Verto GeForce 6600 GT, 128MB, PCIe
Verto GeForce 6800 GT, 256MB, PCIe
Verto GeForce 5700 VE, 256MB, AGP
Verto GeForce 6200 GT, 128MB, AGP
Verto GeForce 6200 GT, 256MB, AGP
Verto GeForce 6600 GT, 128MB, AGP
Verto GeForce 6600 AGP
Verto GeForce 6800 GT, 256MB, AGP
Verto GeForce 6800, 128MB AGP
Verto GeForce FX 5500, 128MB AGP
Verto GeForce FX 5500, 128MB PCI
GeForce FX 5200, 64MB AGP (Lifestyle packaging)
MX 4000, 64MB PCI (Lifestyle packaging)

*One year (plus an additional 2 years upon completion of a registration form on PNY's website)

All other PNY Verto graphic card products are covered by PNY's Lifetime replacement Warranty

The 6800GS is not listed under one yr so it's lifetime replacement? Maybe getting the PNY is not a bad choice after all

Edit: 6800GS AGP is under discontinued so NO lifetime warranty. Too bad.

I'm leaning towards a Sapphire x800gto vs geCube x800 xl battle right now.

By the way, I found a eVGA 6800GS for $225 I think. Not sure if you want to go that high.

I just wished Sapphire made the x800 xl :)

Choosing the video card is not easy these days.... whoooo talk about a long few days of researching.

Long Live AGP! :(

Oh, well. My 7800gs will last for another year, and then I'll upgrade to whatever the standard is then.

I wonder if the x1600pro would be a good buy... hmmmm

I'm coming from a Laptop running a 9200 mobility, so maybe the x1600pro will offer a BIG jump for $110.

Ack! So confused.... head... hurts...... must.... turn of.... pc......

*EDIT - How about this card guys? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102570 it's a ATI x850xt.

Here are my choices so far, what do you think?

Sapphire x1600pro AGP - $106 after rebates ($130 for 512MB version)
Sapphire x800gto AGP - $150 after rebates
GeCube x800 xl AGP - $185
ATI x850xt AGP - $240

PNY 6800gs AGP - $180
eVGA 6800gs AGP - $225
eVGA 7800gs AGP - $275 w/ Age of Empires (which I plan to buy... so you can knock of $40 of that price)

----------------

I can't seem to find. Each has their strong points....

Remember my setup is a:

Asus K8V-MX
AMD Sempron 64 2800+
1gig Corsair RAM
80 gig Seagate SATA
Soundblaster Audigy SE
Thermaltake 430w (18A @ +12V)
And the most important piece.. my xbox360 pc controller (works with the xbox360 btw)!

Thanks again!

I just checked the specs of my dell dimension 4550 on the dell website and realized the powersupply is only 250W! Don't the new videocards need like 350W? Now I'll have to spend another $50(?) for a power supply.

I got the x800xl gecube two weeks ago from he egg for one of my pc's and it's very well made. Ialso called their tech support before hand just to see how easy they were to get on the phone if there were any issues and there was no problem. It comes with a two year warranty fyi. Wife is getting 70-78 fps in riddick @ 1152x864 with cats 6.3 non CCC, Wow and oblivion runs well too at 1024*768 (oblivion w/bloom of course).

I bought the eVGA 6800GS CO Superclocked edition. Paid too much for it ($279 Canadian) but I was able to unlock the masked pipelines (it ships with 12 but there are 16, like a 6800GT/Ultra). Since the Superclocked edition is at 400/1100 and I was able to unlock the pipelines (RivaTuner, takes 2 seconds) I now have a 6800 Ultra. Good enough to tide me over until I build a new system for Vista/DX10 in 2007.

Remember that eVGA has the step-up program. As long as you buy from a real retailer (e.g. not eBay) you can send in your old eVGA card and pay the difference to upgrade within 90 days.

This is important because it is possible a 7900GS (really a 7900GT AGP) is on the way (24 pipes, full clock speeds). Also nice because if the 7800GS price drops to what you paid for your 6800GS within 90 days, you get a free upgrade. eVGA gives you the value of the card as what you paid at retail. Not bad price protection.

I got rid of my most powerful machine (DFI expert-7800GTX) while i could still get good money for it. We'll keep the agp x800xl and i'll probably go conroe with x1900xtx because i will also be replacing our crt with an 20.1 lcd. But for now the x800xl does everything i need it to with a scaleable crt. Most any game i can go 1152*864 with full candy (save oblivion).
