NVIDIA is fulfilling its promises and will start shipping its Geforce 6800 GS AGP cards next week. We already reported that Nvidia has a massive shortage of AGP chips and that it can not print enough 6600 based chips and bridge it back with HSI bridge chip. Its time for the new old card.

Unlike the 6800 GS PCIe, the AGP version will be based on good old NV40 chip and it will be native AGP card without any bridges. We still don?t know about the clock speeds but we heavily suspect that it will have the same clocks as its PCIe brother.

The card will start at a similar price - we expect $249 - and you should see some Etailers listing these cards in the next few days.

ATI is happily shipping its X800 and X700 based AGP chips and it's expected that X1600 based AGP cards won't take to long after its PCIe brother. Nvidia still hopes to cash in the Yule AGP shopping madness

This is what i am thinking.

The card is similairly clocked at 425/500(1000). 12 pieplines, 5 vertex shaders 256bit 256mb.

HOWEVER, the card are using the old NV40 core, meaning the remaing pipes/VS can be unlocked. With these cards going to sell at around $249, simply unlocking all the pp/vs plus some decent OCing would result in 6800ultra EE performance or even higher.

Cant wait, since i want to upgrade my AGP slotted PC using a mere FX5700.

If nvidia continues the trend, those pp/vs will be physically cut. :(

That's a nice upgrade for an 8/4 256bit 128mb 9800 non pro. Or at least I anticipate the benchmarks will show as much.

Im crossing my fingers. They better not be cut/hard modded/whateva or else...

tha;t still a easy fix, a modified bios and a conductive pen will fix that right up. really simple actually. many x800pros were modded this way.

I hope so, too. I am one of two people in my family/friends (so about 4 or 5 gaming AGP rigs) that have PCI-E. Luckily for them, they mostly have sub 6800/X800 cards (except for my father, X800Pro), so a 6800GS would definitely benefit them.

However, for those who already have 6800GT's or similar X800's, this GS is practically useless. I wish, for AGP's sake, that someone release a r520/g70 based AGP video card. We know you have the bridge chips ATi/nvidia!! :|

Then all the marketing money that's being used to tout SLI/Crossfire seems a bit strange. Don't get in front of the marketing bus...

QFT, SPARTAN VI, now there's rumors that 7800gs will be a AGP based model. which i hope is true, but if ATI&NV don't release a G70 or X1800 in AGP, then they'll be missing out on fairly large market.
