What are you comparing, exactly? 9800 Pro to 6800 non-ultra? Or the 9800XT? It all depends on what you want. The 6800 is about 50% higher in price than the 9800 Pro (which is around $180), and provides less than 50% more performance. However, the 6800 will spank the 9800XT, which is the same price. If you are looking for an inexpensive part to SLI, then go with the 6600GT. It will whip the crap out of the 9800 Pro (in fact, it's damn close to 6800 performance and faster than the 9800XT), and it's only $187 on pricewatch. Throw in the SLI capability and the fact that MSI's nForce4 mobos are supposed to be in retail next week, and i think that's the way to go.

nf4 is due next week? damn! i sure can wait for that. actually i was comparing the 9800 to the 6800, stock, and non pro. if it's next week, then 2 6600 gt's here i come. unless i go with an nf3 board, and a 6800 stock. how close do 2 gt's come to that? or is it nvidia any sli compatible card ie 6600 and then latter the nv5x or whatever? thanks. actually i was thinking of getting the 9800 se and sooft modding the thing to a 9800 xt cheap, but worth it? or i could just get the 6600's. hmm. a tighine

or u could wait for a 6800GT or nu in PCIe and then add another when u get enough money.

But, you cannot softmod a SE to a XT, you can make a SE a PRO or a PRO a XT, but not a SE a XT. And when u do that you void the warrenty and should really get a new fan, so i'd just go with either 1-2 6600/6800's.
