6800 vs X800

Same price @ newegg, $289

Can't find any benchmarks listing both, pretty close though eh? I've been thinking Nvidia is faster here, opinions?

That x800 is way overpriced. It's msrp is $200, and it is meant to compete with the 6600gt, which it beats most of the time. So the 6800 is faster, but, for around $300 you could get a x800xl (not xt), which would be even faster still.

$350 is the cheapest x800xl i can find. It can't be that much better than the 6800 surely, if it's even better at all...

Yeah, that's overpriced also. If you don't want to wait or keep looking around, might as well get the 6800 - it's a decent card.

the x800xl is PCIe card i think. But it is a 16 pipe card and the 6800 is only 12 pipe. So the x800xl would be better thatn the 6800.

right, pcie is where i'm heading at this point. Looks like $10 extra is worth it then. Now, if i can just convince my wife she wants an upgrade 😉

Teh 6800 can be a 16 pipe card, if you are lucky. I got the BFG 6800oc and unlocked all 16 pipes with rivatuner. No artifacts, and games run and look sooooo good...

plus the pcie version of 6800 apparantly cannot be unlocked.. anyway, yeh go for the XL at compusa if you can afford it ($300 i think)

Anandtech has a review article with comparisons to most of the popular video cards. Check it out and it should help you make a decision. X800XL is available for $299 now. I got mine at my local Frys store. Get a 6800 if you have plan for SLI, otherwise I'd pick the XL.
It's strange that ATI is optimized for HL2, but ATI put Doom3 on the box instead, which is a game optimized for nVidia.
