6800 Upgrade to X800XT Worth It?

Hey Everyone,
Right now I have a 128mb BFG 6800nu OC that is fully unlocked. I could possibly get a Gigabyte x800xt w/vivo from a friend for about the same price that I could sell my 6800 for. Is it worth it? I'm mainly looking for more performance in Oblivion. Not real worried about the HDR too much because I can't play now with HDR anyway.

Other Specs:
Athlon XP 2800+
NF7-S 2.0
2GB Ram
Antec 500W PSU

Thanks
JayBlay

Except the SM3 of oblivion will be absent.......I wouldn't say its 2x the card either!

agreed, not 2x the card considering your 6800nu is unlocked, but you will gain a considerable boost in performance across the board.

Sorry to add but:
How would the x800xt compare to a 6800gt or a 6800 ultra, besides the fact that the nvidia cards are sm3 and hdr capable?

the x800xt would probably be as fast as the ultra. But I wouldn't upgrade from an unlocked 6800 since you probably won't see much of a difference... trust me I played around with a 6800gt (also oc'd it to ultra), and a modded x800xt @ 600/600, not much of a difference between those cards imo.

You should go PCIe! all the cool people are doing it...

I went from a fully unlocked 6800nu to X800XT PE last year and it was a pretty decent jump. Not huge but definitely noticeable. For Oblivion it's a good deal faster as long as you can deal with not running HDR. But like you said, I found HDR with a 6800 barely playable anyway.

For oblivion it'll be a large step up in performance simply because you can't run x800XT with HDR. It'll be faster in most games over 6800nu though, especially 128mb version. If the price difference isn't a lot like you say, it's a no brainer.

You'll also get better performance in BF2, Far Cry, FEAR, COD2.

Honest question- were you thinking when you typed that? You know you can do this really funky thing with the 6800 like shut HDR off and watch the framerate go way up. Not saying the deal is worth it or not, but come on RS, you had a bit too much to drink today or what? :)

If it's fully unlocked and at near Ultra clock speeds, stay ith what you have as an old X800XT won't offer much difference in performance and lacks SM3 too. Forget it.
