I guess it's a good thing I try hardware despite what others say...

I was ready to send my 243T flat panels back to Samsung!

I finally get a X800XT PT that is for my use (!) and what do you know? The problems with poor video dynamic range are gone! I can't believe the card was causing this since the 213T didn't have this problem.

Also, the card is faster in a lot of things, particularly the nature tests in both 3DMark01 and 03.

It's faster in most of the D3D based interfaces we use too and at 1920x1200 the difference is quite noticeable.

The only thing that the card needs badly is Digital Vibrance.

Cheers!

I love that game.

Well the point is the cards are both so fast that if you're actually playing a game you aren't going to see the difference - in most cases.

Whatever those two theaters have in common - ati is faster. Perhaps someone knowledgeable in the game engines can chime in and explain why.

It's also faster in other things that are using D3D.

Since Doom3 won't run at 1920x1200 (option isn't there) I'm stuck in the 1600x1200 realm and I'm sure the card will handle it fine - given the settings I use.

Not trying to start an Ati vs. Nv crapfast! I typically prefer NV's features over ATi but this time I know what card I'll be keeping in my system. :)

Cheers!

Ahahha... I spilled my coffee I laughed so hard... It always cracks me up when someone says "Well it runs 3DMark2003 a bit faster!".. Now I know the reply I will use for those dorks.

BTW: I had a look at a x800XT and it looked like my 3 year old put the board together.. Man, I always knew ATI sucked for quality control, but these guys are idiots.. No wonder XT's are burning out left and right. Also explains why I had to RMA 3 9800Pro's due to factory defects.

Doom 3 can run 1900*1200, infact it can run any custom resolution you want to. Create a file called AutoExec.cfg using notepad. In it type seta r_customWidth "1900" and underneath that put seta r_customHeight "1200" then close it and move that folder into your doom 3 base folder.

I did; was just making a funny.

These ATI vs. Nv threads are getting lame. Best we start off light hearted or it will turn into the SLI thread.

you are close, but not quite ;)

the autoexec entries are:
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customWidth "1900"
seta r_customHeight "1200"

you must have the mode "-1" to enable custom settings.

:)

Nice. I'll try this tonight.

To be honest, I have heard of a lot more 6800s burning out in Doom 3 and have only heard of 1 XT failure (though the number of cards sold might have influence there)

In anycase your statement is retarded. I'd like to see you design a gpu.

You have to be crazy to go from a 6800 Ultra to the x800 XT PE... XP... ZT (You get the picture, lots of add-on letters ;)) But if you're happy, I guess that's all that matters

Before my experience (that is what this thread is about) I would have said the same thing! However, this experience has proven which card is going to work better.

The strange issue with the DVI on the 243T display is the main reason.

My wife has the 6800U and she is happy. :)

Cheers!

WTF makes you think that? The XT PE is faster is most games except for Doom3.

Yes, the 6800U is awesome, but so is the XT PE.

Over here in the UK, weve had more complaints of GTs dieing than the pros that have been modded to 16 pipes and overclocked to XT speeds, and that most of the GTs were stock at the time

Most games except Doom 3? Whatever. The Ultra is faster in OpenGL games, and the XT is only barely faster in D3D when you're playing at 1600x1200 with 4AA+16AF due to it's higher fillrate (courtesy of high clockspeed), and adaptive filtering..

The Ultra is gaining though due to newer drivers at a much faster rate than ATI, because the R420 is based on older technology while the NV40 is brand new..

Mark my words, the Ultra will close the gap in Half Life 2 stress test and Far Cry. Just look at the performance gains the new 66xx drivers are giving the Ultra!

Plz tell me your wife plays something other then freecell...

She's been playing Q3 since the first test in April of '99. (laugh) She finished Painkiller in a day and still plays it but says the multiplayer isn't so hot. Recently she has started FarCry and (of course) Doom3. She's much more of a gamer than I am but I do like to go on the occasional digital rampage and blow sh!t up and stuff. :)

Cheers!
