6800 ULTRA INSTALL PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP

I tried to install my old 6800 Ultra card into my older PC which is not used for gaming. I had a LeadTek Winfast A250 128MB card in there. The rest of the system specs are listed below. I got a a 430 Watt power supply and ran the PC with the new power supply before replacing the card and it worked fine.

I removed all drivers for the LeadTek card, rebooted and then powered down the PC and put the 6800 Ultra card in. When I booted it back up I got one long beep and no picture. I have both power connectors connected from the card to the power supply and can't figure out what the deal is. Any ideas what preventing this card from coming up? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

have you tested the 6800 in another PC to make sure that it is still working OK?

What motherboard are you using for the P4?
 
Yes, it works OK. I just replaced the 6800 Ultra with an Evga 8800GTX in my gaming PC so I wanted to put the 6800 in my original PC since it was still a good card. In the process I can't boot back up now. Here's what I posted in the motherboards forum:

While in the process of trying to put a 6800 Ultra video card into my old PC, I made a couple of changes to the BIOS and now I get the message below when I boot up. I can't get past this message and don't know what it's trying to tell me.

BIOS ROM checksum error
detecting floppy drive A media
insert system disk and press ENTER

I tried to reset my mainboard back to the default settings by resetting the jumper but I keep getting the same message above. I'm following the instructions for resetting the jumper according to the manual but is something else going on here?

Any ideas what going? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like your Bios has gone bad, try removing the battery and let it sit for a while, then put the battery back on the mobo and restart the PC, that should clear any bad settings that are in the Bios.
 
No, the power supply is an Extreme Power by Coolermaster. I got it from Newegg.com. I put it in first and ran the PC for a few weeks before trying the 6800 card in there.

The Mainboard is a ECS Elitegroup L4S5M from 2002. I have tried resetting the BIOS by unplugging the battery and resetting the jumpers but no luck. Would it be worth it to try and flash the BIOS since I can't even get into the BIOS?

Cooler Master isn't the best brand for PSU's. Is it This? 19a on the +12v rail is probably cutting it a little close, especially for a relatively power hungry card like the 6800ultra.
 
6800 ultra requires 480W PSU. I had 430W Antec TruePower, which is good PSU, but it would artifacts.

Also I don't see how the 6800 Ultra, 8800GTX and 4600Ti can be sitting at same mobo?
 
The 8800 GTX is in my gaming PC replacing the 6800 that it came with. The 6800 was going to replace the 4600Ti in my old PC. Yes, it is the power supply you referenced from Newegg, I know it's a cheapie but thought it would do the trick. It's an old PC and I just use it for backup and for the family to use.

Any idea what to do at this point? From what I'm reading I may be looking at a blown BIOS chip?

Is the 6800 PCI-e or AGP?? If the 8800 is replacing the 6800 then it should be PCI-e correct? Now the ECS motherboard you are trying to put it in is an AGP motherboard. How exactly are you fitting the 6800 card into the AGP slot?
 
I have a Asrtock 939 Sata2 motherboard that the 6800 (AGP) came out of. That board will take both PCI-E and AGP cards. The old PC I was trying to put the 6800 into takes only AGP cards which the 6800 is.

Think it's worth flashing the BIOS before purchasing a new chip? I found this link for replacement chips: http://www.biosman.com/

If the replacement chip is gonna cost $25-30 then forget it. Just buy another motherboard. You can probably get a used one for fairly cheap.

Having said that I obviously can't be 100% sure it's the BIOS. I have never seeen those messages so I'm not sure. Hopefully someone that has a bit more experience can help.
 
OK, so if I buy a new motherboard I have a decision to make. Should I use the Socket 478 Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ that is on the board now or should I use an Socket 939 Athlon 64 3500+ CPU that I have leftover from another upgrade.
