$600...

I got BOTH of mine for retail $$ 3 months ago. Guess they're more rare than I'd like to believe.

$600? What the hell is going on with the video card industry? Buying a video card is more expensive than a console system????

I guess if you are hard core towards gamming you will buy an expensive video card. However since i see that you have a ti4200 i can tell you dont game so you problaby wouldnt spend anythign near that towards a card.

Anyway those systems for only like 500 suck.

Errrrr, it always has been?

I remember I got the Voodoo 2 about two days after it had been released. I kept calling Comp USA to find on in stock. Had to drive 80 miles just to get one. Whatever, that's not the point... The point is, that at the time, it was the best video card you could buy. Extremely powerful. And "only" cost $300. Those were the days.

After that, I got a Voodoo 3 3000 to replace my aging Voodoo 2. I think I got it in the year 2000 for a birthday present. It was around $150 at the time. I bought a GeForce 2 Pro a little while after the GeForce 3 was out, around the middle of 2001, and it cost $170. In December of 2002, right when the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro came out, I picked up one of those for $200, which is still in my rig today. My next upgrade will be an A64 with nForce 4 SLI motherboard, and a GeForce 6800 GT or Ultra. So I'm looking at spending quite a bit more than every other upgrade I've ever made in the graphics department. I think video card prices are getting out of hand these days.

That is the point. I think the Voodoo 1 was $300 at launch, and I doubt whatever console was around then was more than that. Good video cards have always been as much as a console or more.

NeoGeo was $650 with the games costing ~$200 each. 🙁

Hey dont get a nFroce 4 SLI mobo, there is no point unless you are going to get like 2 top of the line cards. Like two 6800GT or 6800Ultra. Becaue if you want to get two 6600GT that costs just as much as a 6800GT, acutally one 6800GT is less than two 6600GT. Two 6600GT is nowhere near the performance of a 6800GT. Its not worth the extra money for nForce 4 SLI mobo when you can just get a regular nFroce 4.

My plan was to get a 6800 GT or Ultra, and then 6 months or more later, when my bank account recovers from my upgrade, to get another card and hopefully the prices have come down 100-150 dollars.

This retailer has them quite often. I bought mine here about a month ago. They're out now but keep checking back. Last week they even gave a $10.00 rebate 😉 .
