My 3dmark score

GF 6800 U E 450/1.10 , Athlon xp 3000 (2.1 gig), 1gig ram.

My athlon xp is holding back anything higher for now.

With my 5900 U that i had, i got 6028 as a score in the same system. Almost double!

As great as this card has been unfortunately I may be putting it up for sale soon as something has come up unexpectedly and I may need the funds...

In the meantime I'm enjoying painkiller and UT2004 at 1600x1200 with all features highest with 4xAA and 8x AF.

In the meantime here is some more info:

Power supply info: I'm using an antec true 330 power supply. I've plugged in both molex connectors. I haven't tried it with only connector (i'm afraid to). It's been fine with this power supply.

I'm using the 61.12 drivers.

For UT2004 i don't know how to benchmark it but I've been watching the framerate as I'm playing and at 1600x1200 with all eye candy max and 4x AA and 8x AF the frame rates stay between 50-80 fps depending on the map, location, amount of players, etc.

Interesting. I guess my 400W shouldn't have any trouble should I decide to purchase this card.

How's the fan noise? Is it noticeable?

I can't really tell if the fan is loud as i have 3 80mm case fans that make a good amount of noise already. My system may be a little louder overall, but not by much.

BFG, your pals at ATI HQ will be very angry if you buy a 6800U. Besides that, I may well buy a 6800U, and you wouldn't want to use the same card as an "idiot" like me, would you?

What about the adaptive fury?!?!!??!?

Actually I'd be amazed if you bought anything but a 6800U. You've had the R300 core for 3 years, the X800 series adds only pipes and brilinear.

I'm not especially concerned what card you buy.

What about the adaptive fury?!?!!??!?
Huh?

You've had the R300 core for 3 years,
More like 1.5.

the X800 series adds only pipes and brilinear.
It takes what I have now and makes it much faster. How is that a bad thing?

All that i can say (or that i want to say) is that i paid a lot, but it's definitely worth it. Never before has an upgrade made such a difference in gaming.

edit

altho maybe the blame is solely on the drivers since your 3dm cpu score is better than mine?

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2578353

let us know some updated results when the new driver is released as it's suppposed to improve far cry performance.

I'll have to try benching farcry at the lower resolutions and see what the results are. For your system there isn't much difference across the resolutions, does that mean that the cpu or the gpu is maxed out?

Also, for your X800 Pro your speeds are 521/548, what are the defaults? i can't remember off hand.

Thanks.

By "adaptive fury" I meant the addition of non standard trilinear. Taking what you have now and making it faster can only be a bad thing if what you have now becomes antiquated (faster or not) in the lifespan of the card for you.
You held on to the 9700Pro for a year and half, if you buy an ATI card now and hold on to it for a year and a half you're gambling that the features in DX9c SM3 will be unavailable or unimportant for that year and a half.

Frankly, that doesn't sound like the BFG I know. You always want to have what is best and most advanced, and I can't see you gladly saying,"DX9c SM3 is a fad. Good old DX9b is good enough for me!" in exchange for a few frames in some games.

Especially when you consider those few frames are coming at the cost of reduced IQ from cheater drivers that you can't disable.

Anyway, the Xafgoat guy was right, my first post was troll-esque, I apologize for it.

I wouldn't think anyone considering keeping this generation card very long could risk buying a X800 anything. It might turn out to be another DX9 PS2 type situation where it didn't matter for well over a year and then only on a couple games, but when you consider nVidia's TWIMTBP program, the list of upcoming games and patches, and the iminent Doom3, I think I know why we're seeing these preorder deals of $440 on X800XTs.
