6800 question!

Hi. Since the realease of the new 7800GTX cards in drawing near. Normal Non-Ultra Non-GT 6800 card prices have plummeted. I'm interested in one. But, I only have AGP. On top of that it is only 4xAGP. I see several AGP models being sold. And they say that it is AGP 4x/8x. However, I realize that 8x is fully backwards compatible with 4x and so there wouldn't be an issue there. But, comon, can a 6800 seriously work at full speed on a 4x bus? Seems impossible to me. Can anyone tell me? Also would a 350w power supply be able to drive it? Also, what about a 6600GT? would it run into a bottleneck as well or power supply problem? Also what about the 9800PRO? I realise its older but what about its AGP4x performance and power consumption?

shouldnt have a problem then, especially since the 6800 is the bigger class of the other two. now you have to worry about the specification on the psu.

Ok thx for the advice.. So I can get a new graphics card AND keep my current 4x AGP system. Awsome. But what do you mean the specification of the PSU?

what kind of brand it is and number crunch on the voltages (+12,+5,+3.3, etc). i dont really think the specs matter because im just trying to sound smart on this part. so hopefully someone else could jump in here. but the brand does count. generics tend to go wrong compared to something like ocz, fortron, pcp&cooling. such and such.

Pretty sure it is just generic. Came with a SOYO bundle. Currently replacing its fan. The fan is by some company called Everpower. Maybe the psu is as well???? I dont know really.

By the way the video card im looking at is a GIGABYTE. It just uses heatpipe cooling instead of a fan. While I realise thats the lowest power consuming part on the card, it still lowers power.

agreed but i don't overclock anything so my system stays cool

I would get a fan on it. GPUs put out a LOT of heat. A fan will help pull that cool air in your case toward the video card.

how can I do that? taking off the heatsink (in this case, heatpipe) voids the warranty and I dont want to take a chance on breaking it. (My head would explode). All my comp is is a Dell. That means instead of a CPU fan, it uses a tall heatsink. On 120mm fan cools everything inside the case.
