400-420 seems to be the typical max core speed of the GTs. I've seen a couple that haven't gone past 390 though. All in all they are reasonable overclockers (20%), but not exceptional.

400/1.1 right now (no real need to go higher for the time being) at 83/73/56 (full load/gaming/regular).
I've managed 420/1.19 though.

I hope this isn't a stupid question  I heard that the GT and Ultra are exactly the same except for the core and memory speeds. Is there any reason to buy an Ultra over a GT if they seem to clock above a stock Ultra?

Does anyone have an Ultra and do they overclock better?

Last one... Do you use that program powerstrip or is their a utility with your cards? (never overclocked before).

Thank you!

yes. GT and ULTRA have 16 pipelines. GT is just a lower clocked single slot card.
6800 [standard] is a handicapable 12 pipeline card.

you can enable an overclock function in nv drivers through a registry edit. very simple :)
look up 'coolbits'

My BFG 6800GT is currently at 435/1030. Idle temp is 53 C. The highest I've gotten it is 444/1040. Yes my memory sucks.

Are you guys sure you're not getting artifacts at these speeds??? Specifically what tests are you guys running when you quote speeds like 420/1100.

I used 3dmark03 and games. No artifacts. Max temp during 3dmark03 was 77 C. At 435/1.03, scored 11491 with Tbred B at 2.2ghz.

Run 3DMark03 through a few times and play games for a few hours, plus some DX9 rendering too. 420/1.19 is about the max because although the first time running through there was no problem, but the next day when my room was ~10 degrees hotter I started seeing artifacts after 3hrs or so of Battlefield so it's back down to 400/1.1 now. I wonder if they'll end up selling the Ultra coolers seperately eventually...

That low memory is really killing you. AFAIK Ultras usually get 12000+. Most GT's do seem to be able to clock to Ultra speeds, but then are failing after that on either the core or the memory. I'll test my GT out then ebay 1 of my 2 cards depending on performance and price.

Also, can someone tell me the memory chip ratings on these? Are they 2.0 ns? Also who makes them?

I'm not really concerned with the poor OC memory speed. I'm more than happy with my core and that offsets any disappointment I have with the poor memory overclock. I don't think my score is bad at all considering my CPU. My A64 3200+ and motherboard should arrive Tuesday so most of CPU bottleneck should be solved.

Since Im waiting for my eVGA 6800GT delivery tomorrow, I'm guessing everybody uses cool bits to over clock?

I've OC'd my eVGA 6800GT to 415/1130. Temps are 55c idle / 88c load. Rock stable with no artifacts. My highest 3DMark2003 was 12860 on my A64 3500 OC'd to a 3800.

My eVGA 6800GT can get around 415-420 Mhz core and 1.15 GHz Ram. Havent pushed it though. Don't really want to or need to. 76c load/62c Idle/ 58c ambient.

i'm thinking about getting a new graphics card. I have a MSI G4 ti4400 128mb and want something that will better this card and one that is future proof. I have made my mind up that I will stick with nvidia as I think the driver support is generally better than ATI. I'm looking at the 6800 GT and above. When you guys overclock the 6800 GT do you use the standard cooling fan that came with the card? if you are able to get stable performance at clcoks of 410/1.1k then I think its worth getting the GT rahter than the ultra or ultra extreme. 1) 40-50 MHz clcok speed is negligible and exteme ultra is out of my price range. Thanks for any views you have.

So far, I have my EVGA at 400/1100, havn't tried higher yet, but will soon, temps after a 1/2 hour or so of COD are Core 32c, ambient 28c...I have a swiftech Block on the Gpu, as well as the northbridge, and cpu. Water temps at rez are kept at 51 to 54f at all times :D

Edit; I also pulled the ram sinks from stock, and installed copper sinks.
