It seems like everything these days is 6600GT, 6600GT... whatever happened to the 6800NU? I realize it's not that much better, but there is still the possibility of unlocking it, no? And with slower default clocks, won't it OC much better?

Just wondering.

It has 1.5 times as many pipes, with the opportunity to unlock a further 4. Which makes it a pretty good card. The stock clocks can be overclocked on the 6800nu, however it is impossible to reach such high memory clocks because 6800nu only has regular DDR vram where as the 6600gt has GDDR3 vram, allowing for high clock speeds.

Yeah, but the 6800 has twice the memory bus width, which basically means at 700MHz it has the same bandwidth as the 6600 even at 1400 MHz, which says the 6800 can get much better bandwidth theoretically.

i was always dead set on picking up a 6600gt, but I think I'm going to wait until I can get a 6800NU for 200 bucks

actually lookin at the benches here on anandtech the 6800 rarely beats the 6600gt and sometimes falls behind it even in some AA situations... so i guess i take my previous post back 🙂
