6800 GT setup giving me problems

when I'm playing far cry, or even CS, i'll get some crazy texture/artifacts. I noticed my GPU temps soar to about 80 degrees. When I take the side door of my case off however, the warping lessens.

I'm running the 71.89 drivers btw, does this sound like my cards are overeheating? My case is pretty well ventilated, but i'm missing an intake fan.

ugh, the GPUs are idling right now @ 70, 72

edit: A molex adapter was blocking my exhaust 120mm fan 😱 That explained the high idle temps, now they're idling 60,64 respectively.

so does this mean your problems are fixed?

No, i swtiched the order of the cards, and now the atrifacts are less frequent. Also, when i alt-tab'd out of the game, and back into it, the problem went away.

Anything less then 65 idle is okay.

Anything less then 85 load is okay as well.

Well why are there artifacts and texture bleeding when the temps are higher? Could it just be a drivers issue?

I think it might be a slight driver bug possibly, or some corruption on your hard drive.

When I was playing The Sims 2 I'd occassionally get some artifacts, but if I quit the game then started it again it was fine. Though my temps are only into the 70s full load anymore(AS5 to the rescue). I've never had any artifacts in Half Life 2 or CS:S, or Star Wars Galaxies.

Before I had proper cooling my 6600 GT, it would do the same thing when it got hot. Get a Zalman or a NV Silencer 5 and you'll be right as rain.

Unless one of your cards if FUBAR then your F'ed.
