I bought a PNY 6800 Gt last week and neither me or CompUSA could get it to work. I HAD an Abit KD7 /Athlon XP 2600 and everyone from Abit to PNY was scratching their heads over it.

So I used it as an excuse to upgrade and got an Athlon 64 3500+ with an Abit AV8 board. I have 512 pc 2700 and the old GeForce 6400 works fine.

Guess what! The 6800 did the same thing as it did in the other board. Nothing. The computer boots up to a black screen as if the monitor isnt plugged in. Did the same thing with the other board as well.

My fault for getting another Abit board I guess but I really thought that having the latest/greatest would fix the problem.

BTW.. the card worked fine in a test system at CompUSA when they were working on mine......

ANY help on this would be wonderfull as now there are no matching cards in my area.....Sacramento.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Does the molex plug you are using have power? Try a different one or try hooking something else up to it to see if it has juice?

Thanks for all of the replies.

Although I'm sorry that I get to miss out on ANOTHER "Idiot of the Week Award", YES I do have the extra power plug in and I tested it on other componets to make sure it was good.... lol

Also, I made sure that the card was v e r y well seated in the AGP slot.

It's an intresting question about the monitor though. I have a Sony Multiscan 17sf that is about 10 yrs old. Not sure if that could be the issue though. I took the system to CompUSA when I couldnt get it to work since they said they would try for free. The card failed on my board with their monitors as well, but worked on theirs. The motherboard seemed fine since it worked with the other card (GeForce 4600)... and now this new m/b (also Abit) does the e x a c t same thing.... hmmmmm

I'd love to just return it and try another manufacture (BFG/Leadtek) but now Northern CA seems to out!!

Thanks again for the responses and maybe I can get this thing going afterall......

if your running win xp at your first startup hit f8 like if you were going into safe mode, instead select "enable vga mode" and see if you get a picture.

I am running XP and just tried what you said.... Im afraid I got nothing.

The monitor never even powers on from sleep mode when I power up... the screen stays off-grey like its not plugged in.

One question, has anyone ever had to manually change the voltage to the AGP slot?? PNY suggested to try and manually switch from 1.5 to 1.6 or 1.7. Its currently set at "auto-configure" and at 1.5 for the GeForce 4600.

My last board didnt have the option to manually change that setting.... but I suppose I can give it a try. If I dont post back its because I've fried my current video card.

Thanks,

Ken
