6800 GT Brand differences

So i'm shopping for a new rig and i'm comparing prices for 6800gt's. From what i can remeber, usually the brand doesn tplay a big difference in the performance of the cards as long as the gpu is the same (which it will , since i'm looking at 6800 gt's only)

What i noticed is a huge price difference between some of these brands. MSI sells their 6800 gt (pci, 256 mb) for about $445 cad and i've seen other brands priced at about $550
That's a huge difference just based on brand!

Is there something i should be looking out for? Is there a difference in performance between brands ? What would you guys recommend as far as brand goes (that's if it makes a difference)?

BFG, and Leadtek are both GREAt manufacurers. MSI ussually has high prices because they bundle like 10 games with them. I personally have a PNy 6800 GT and its been great. OC's to 425/1150 no problem. Mine AGP though.
 
BFG and Chaintech overclock the 6800GT's GPUs 20mhz, other than that, they are all almost the same. Leadtek and BFG also use a non-nVidia cooler.

While ASUS does have a model with the GT GPU and 128MB of DDR memory. They also have a model with the GT GPU and 256MB of GDDR3 (V9999GT/TD/256M/A $429 USD)

It is an awsome build

What exactly about their cards don't you like? I know of the XFX "support" disasters but that has nothing to do with build quality.

Of course I am not sure you will find Gainward or ASUS 6800GT PCIes readily available if at all. I do like the cooler on the ASUS one, however. And what is wrong with BFG, I happen to think they are the best out there; can't beat the lifetime warranty.

 
I was just wondering, on these boards, when talking about video cards, I primarily hear Leadtek, eVGA, and BFG suggested as best ... but I was wondering why ASUS is never mentioned as a good video card maker? I only say this in this thread because a few people brought ASUS up, but I usually do not see their name. Are their video cards as good as their mobos, or do that lack in that area?

If you ever have an issue with your card, call them up. Then come back to me.
there is no reason to buy an XFX; their support and quality sucks. just get another brand.

Some people have had bad experences with them.

yeah i heard a lot about BFG (best warranty oit there) and evga being good manufactures. But between the BFG and the MSI there's about $100 diff in price 😱. In this case the MSI is a lot cheaper.

Any complaints about the MSI guys? It appears as if there's not a whole lot beign said about them so i'm not sure if should go with an MSI or not.
 
I own an ASUS an it is a great quality product, the single slot cooler is as effective as dual slot reference and is very quiet in idle, and not noisy in 3d. The blue LEDs make it look great. Also it has Ultra PCB and Vcore is set to 1.47V by default!

I have an ASUS as mentioned earlier. (V9999GT/TD/256M/A) I have had great luck with their hardware (I believe it to be on the very same par with their MoBos) I think one of the reasons ASUS doesn't seem to show up in the reviews as often is that they always seem to be later to market and miss the boat (so to speak) on the early reviews. Then when they do finally arrive everyone has moved on to the next big thing.

As an example, ASUS first released their 128MB version of the V9999GT. It was not terribly popular because it utilized the older DDR ram and only 128MB of it at that. Now that the 256MB version (GDDR3) is available, the original mass of hype and reviews has wound down and they are going unnoticed. I had an easy time finding mine at ZipZoomFly as well as Newegg (but neweggs offering seems to keep going in and out of stock). Just do a google on "V9999GT 256" and you'll find a half dozen or so places it is being sold.

On a side note, I am not a huge fan of ASUS' software (although SmartDoctor is better this time around and is necessary to monitor temperature and voltages of the card)

If you have a few extra $$ and want Best of the Best hardware (by hardware I mean the PCB and components mounted on it) you probably should consider ASUS. They even have an alarm buzzer incorporated in their design to warn you if any voltage, temperature, or fan speed fall outside the margins you set in SmartDoctor)
