6800 GT Booting with Artifacts... HELP!

As of a few hours ago I had my computer working perfectly fine. That was until this morning when I turned it on again. The main parts of my system are as follows:

Athlon XP 3200

Leadtek 6800 GT

1GB PC3200 Kingston ram

Abit-NF7 nForce2 motherboard

When I tried to turn my PC on this morning immediately powering it on there were artifacts in POST. It was a combination of oddly colored text, or text missing in chunks. Next, there is sporadic green lines at various stages of the boot process. When getting to windows there will be a variety of things displayed ranging from different colored blocks or green lines on the screen.

I haven't done anything that really pushed the videocard recently. Nor have I made any changes to the videocard's cooling as I should (I had not gotten the time to do it yet 🙁 ). I've never had any heat issues with my case before or any other issues that stand out as possible problems.

I'm looking for any hints/tips/suggestions that people have as to what has happened to my video card, or anything I can do to fix it. I'm kinda feeling that the core got fried somehow. I'm hoping someone has a suggestion which says otherwise =\. If there is anything else I can provide let me know I really want to find out the cause of this to prevent it in the future. Thanks to everyone.

hmm.. can you get into windows? If so try using rivatuner to underclock the memory on the card to see if anything changes, also to check the temps... Possible teh memory got corrupted somehow (an rma may be in order ;( )

I can't really get back into windows the artifacting is terrible when reaching the windows logon. I do have rivatuner already installed but everything is on defaults, I mainly was using it for temperatures. I'll the underclocking a shot if I can get back into windows.

Well sorry to be the one to tell you this but about a month ago I bought the parts to build my new pc. When they arrived I started putting my system together... and to make a long story short, artifacts on boot up. It seems that Leadtek's first run of the 6800GT cards had bad ram chips. I had to RMA my card back to the place I bought it from (Mwave) and they sent me a new card (that they tested before shipping to me). Now my new system is running great 🙂

So you might have to check with the place you bought it from failing that, Email Leadtek and get an RMA number 🙁

I feel your pain, bro. Its not fun when it happens but stuff like this will happen from time to time.

I got it from Newegg and it had been running beautifully for about two months now. I've already started getting in touch with Leadtek going to probably have to RMA through them =\.

i had that problem w/ a leadtek 6800gt once- you should rma it to newegg they are very good about rmas in the first 6 months.
