6800 GPU core temp at 153c?!

Hi,

I just installed my new XFX Geforce 6800 (vanilla) dual dvi. I'm using the latest 61.77 drivers, and my GPU core temp is at 153c. ALL I've done so far is install the card, the drivers, and check the temperature. So no crazy overclocking. Any thoughts on what might be giving this incredibly high temperature reading? I find it highly unlikely the card actually runs that hot (but I've taken it out and replaced it with my 9800 PRO until I learn more about the problem). So far it's only seen about 20 minutes of "action" on my system (nothing more than just installing the drivers and some web surfing). The card wasn't hot to the touch when I removed it from my system. My thoughts on this are that it's either a driver issue, or a malfunctioning temperature probe on the card itself.

Has anyone experienced the same problem, and can shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the suggestion Zebo, but the card appears to be in perfect condition. It's also not adding a 1 to the 53, Cannabis, since the colored temperature indicators are also in the red.

I've just tried to play some War3 replays and the card screws up majorly, every time. I'm using a dual TFT set up, and both my screens get these weird white markings on them, and then it locks up. Resetting the system is the only thing I can do. I haven't been using these TFTs for a long time, but is that what artifacts are? The white streaks?

Thanks,

Thanks for the help, I've already e-mailed the webstore I bought it from, hopefully they'll get me a new one asap.

About the white markings on the screens, caused by the video card, is there any way my delicate little TFT screens could be damaged by that? Is there any way a defective video card can damage an LCD at all?

Thanks.
