6800 Go vs Mobility X700 - what am I missing?!?

I have read so many reviews/benchmarks of these two cards my eyes hurt.

It seems like the 6800 Go should clearly be a better card: more pipelines, shader 3.0 support...

But I see a lot of benchmarks (like HL2) where the X700 does almost as well as the 6800.

Aside from clock speeds, am I missing something?

btw, I am looking at 2 laptops to buy. The 2 cards I have to choose from are the Mobility X700 128mb and 6800 Go 256mb.
 
HL2 tends to run better on ati hardware. doom tends to run better on nvidia hardware. additionally, if the quality settings are not the same between the 2, then the performance test is invalid. HL2 happens to be very good at running on older hardware by turning down the gfx effects, texture quality, etc. so if the x700 tests were running on medium quality and SM2, and the 6800 tests were running at high quality and SM3, the x700 might match the 6800 in fps. but the 6800 would look better.
 
Hey Kashikoi, what laptops are those ? Im looking into buying a gaming notebook myself and was wondering the same about the nvidia vs ati.
