I also only have an XP 2800+ (Barton, not OC'd) with 1 gig of OCZ Platinum Edition Dual DDR 400 ram. I'm also running DX9 so the smoke and particles are very detailed.

My rig is a bit similar (less on the GPU side, more on the cpu) I'm running with everything maxed @ 4xAA (except corpses at medium). Since my monitor is crappy I've got to run at 10x7 to get a RR of 75hz. But I've had no slowdowns.

Thanks for the tweak guide link :)

no reason to run dx7, just don't set texture settings too high, the highest settings just eat vid card memory.

Wow, that does not make any sense. I am using a P4 3.0E (your 3700+ processor kicks the crap out of mine), I am using a 7800GTX (only about 10 to 15% better performance than your 7800GT) and 1GB DDR400. Nothing overclocked. At 1024x768, DX9 all setting EXTRA, 2xAA 8xAF, I average 70 fps and usually stays at 91 (vsync cap) while running around.

Using 81.85's and the Intel 1.01 patch for HT, Dual CPU and Dual core CPU's. (That made a nice huge difference)

But still, your rig should be kicking the shiznit out of mine. Something is wrong there bro if my rig is smoking through this game, yours should actually do same or better with the 3700+ GT and 2GB. No question.

To those of you recommending more RAM, are you speaking from experience? I know the common knowledge is that 1GB is the new minimum for smooth gameplay, but the Gamespot guide shows no difference in framerate all the way down to 256MB. Maybe the game actually doens't use that much mem thanks to X360's influence? Or maybe their CoD2 demo, or CoD2 demos in general, don't reflect in-game mem usage?

Nah, this game plays just fine with 1GB as long as you don't have 12 other programs running in the background. I never have any disk thrashing or stuttering whatsoever.
I have noticed that CPU power plays a very big role as the 1.01 patch for my HT P4 increased my framerates (min, avg, max) substantially. On the order of 25% higher in all.

A friend of mine uses a 9600 vanilla to play CoD2. He has an Athlon XP 2800+ with a GB of DDR. He can only manage 640x480 to be playable in all areas of the game. If he goes up one res to 800x600, he finds himself in the teens quite often. I just told him to order the AIW850XT. It was actually all that was available in AGP that was worth its buying price.

Actually it looks surprisingly good and it still looks better than the original CoD.

The DX9 path is an absolute slideshow because it's poorly programmed.

I honestly can't see a difference in my performance between DirectX 7 or DirectX 9.:disgust:

Ok, I know the "showfps 1" console command to view framerate, but does anyone know how to change the cap? My cap is 91 and Vsync is disabled. CoD had a command something like "fpslimit "0" and that would remove any limit. I was getting damn near 500 fps in some situations using that command. But I cant seem to find it for CoD2.
Anyone?

Nope. You nreed more ram, 512mb ain't cuttin' it.

It's not your VId card man. It's your Ram as well as an underpowered CPU.

man i can rock this game with my geforce4 mx 400 64mb, and it looks pretty nice if i might add, i even get 8-19 fps and thats at 800x600 so i dont know what you talkign about.
