You mean the 6970 right? 1 6970 is slightly under a GTX 580, but not much and the price difference is pretty huge. Go with the 6970, its almost a no brainer unless you aren't the slightest bit worried about money.
I am going with 2 6970s in crossfire, and it outperforms 2 GTX 580s on some games on certain resolutions. And I beg to differ that 2 6970s in crossfire better than 1 6990 in most games on most resolutions, especially if the 6970s you get are stock OCd.
You pay a premium for Nvidia, and you don't always get your moneys worth if you compare it with ATI. The 6990 is still the single best GPU and its cheaper than the GTX 590. Dunno why anyone would even buy a GTX 590 unless they just love Nvidia and hate ATI.
I'm pretty neutral, and I go with whoever wants to give me the better deal for my money, and most of the time it is ATI. If I can find a good Nvidia card on sale, I would buy it.
