6770 and PSU?

Planning on buying a 6770, Minimum req. for the PSU is 500W. I have a 550W.
Is that pushing it? Or should i just go get a high wattage PSU?

Simple question, thanks for the replies.

You'll be more than fine probably (like in 98% of all cases).

But we'll need complete system specs to be 100% sure.

Yeah if you could give us the make and model of the PSU we could tell you for sure, but as long as it is a quality unit you are most likely fine.

For example, I'd go as far as saying a solid 450 Antec Earthwatts, a quaility unit, is fine, where as some crap Rosewill 550/600 I might question.

You'll probably be fine. I use a Core 2 Quad and a Radeon HD 5770 with no problems on a Dell 375 W PSU.

Diablotek 550-Watt ATX Power Supply PHD550 with a AMD Phenom II X4 920, and a MSI 785GTM-e45 which by the way is a horrible mobo, in which im planning on replacing.

i had a hacked athlon x4 2.9 ghz with 5770 on a ultra 400w ps and it was 100% stable

5770 uses 100 watts and your quad uses about 100 more, you will be fine. You psu has a 30 amp rail. 30x12= 360 watts.

You could probrobly even grab a 6850 and be good.

well its actually a 6770, but im pretty sure its just a "remake" of the the 5770. But yeah, since we're on the discussion of this... How is the 6770 as far as gaming and i know its possible to hook it up using eyefinity which i was thinking of, but would it be able to perform and handle it? I would plan on using 3 20inch Acer monitors, which i think cap at a rez of 1600 x 900.

Again thanks for the help and replies.

No, it would suck with eyefinity, for a single 1600x1050 monitor it would be good.

You may be able to play some games at low settings with eyefinity just to try it out.

Ah, okay. So i should probably just invest in like a 24inch and just have it all running on one monitor? With one monitor though, its a good card still? (Honestly, im trying to upgrade so i can get the most out of Skyrim when it comes out 😀)

LOOK at 5770 reviews and decide for yourself.

If I were you................

Well this is tough you have a 3 monitor setup ,a quad core cpu, a weak psu, and you need a gpu.

What are you willing to spend?
