675m or 7970m

I am looking to buy a laptop in less than a week. ( on a tight timeline) which graphics should I get for a gaming laptop?

If you are really in a rush just double check the build/shipping info on anything with a 7970, place I saw it listed as an upgrade had an estimated date towards the end of May.

Yes, slower but 660m is kepler while 675m is just a rebadged 580m. Are there any other considerations (price, battery life, heat, etc...?) For pure gaming performance it looks like the 7970 is superior based on the benchmarks posted above...

Well it depends on your budget.

The new 7870 series is going to slot in next to the 570M and give it stiff competition (though on power it will win easily).

However in a lot of cases the 670M has been the same price as the 660M and it is faster. Also the 670M will come in an upgradable MXM slot where as the 660M may not.

Yep i saw that on notebookcheck.net, the 7970M is essentially a 7850 with a more modest clock. It's a beast for laptops.

Very interesting. If that's true, the gain is far greater than what the 7970 achieved on desktops.

I can't really tell if the performance stagnation of both Ivy Bridge and 7970 in desktops are due to fundamental issues or conscious decision of designers. Like using crappy bins to save money on lower selling desktop chips.

Seems like an enormous step forward. Sure makes the 460M in my G73 look pathetic. Makes my desktop 6850 look pretty weak for that matter.

Never expected laptop GPU performance to draw so close to desktops in such a short period of time.
