so you make that assumption from a video that was shot after the situation began and even after the black guy threw the first punch? who did ebm fuck w/ who did nothing to him on a regular basis? he walked away from the situation, the black guy escalated it by 1)going to ebm 2x in a threatening manner and 2)punching ebm first. if you get your ass handed to you because you took a verbal argument into a physical one, then so be it, that is how shit works in the real world when people defend themselves.

ebm could have ptsd if in fact he was in vietnam and the stress from the black guys attack triggered it. i have known many vietnam vets w/ ptsd that this happens to - something will trigger a rather "unique" response. those guys were in serious shit back in their day and never given any respect or mental help until 20+yrs after the situation.

maybe somebody w/ a better understanding can put in more insight but by the way ebm keeps wiping his beard seems like a nervous coping mechanism, and when he gets to "the point" he tries to remove himself from the situation, defusing it only to be in a place where he can't move any further, so he deals w/ the situation after physical contact by angry thug.
