6600LE and 6600

How much better perfromance should I expect to see from a 6600 (128MB) compared to a 6600LE (128MB also)?

I know that the 6600 has 8 piplines compared to a 4 from the 6600LE. The fillrate is half too (2400 vs 1200).

I would guess that the 6600 is better by 40%. What do you think?

Please do not hesitate to post your opinion, the more the merrier.

Cheers

I have heard that the LE edition cards are just leftovers that couldn't make it as vanillas. Personally I would take the GT over either of them.

the sad thing is, i can't afford it

but back to my question

How much more performance does the 6600 offer over the 6600LE.

Hey if thats all you can afford? Yes. I would buy used in your case though without a dought you'll get much faster cheaper.

Edit : what games do you play and at what resolution? What the rest of your system look like?

ok I have a Sempron 3100+ at 2055mhz and 512 ddr ram and integrated grforce 6100 graphics

Btw, I have looked arond for a used card but the sellers are greedy and ask the same if not more than what you would find in a no-name computer store.

I just want to play a variety of games in particulater, nba live, counter strike source, grand theft auto san andreas but the reason i want a graphics card is because i want to play like battlefield 2 and FEar. don't laugh at me 🙁

EDIT: wrong smiley

To be honest with you a 6600/LE won't cut it for FEAR or CSS in my opinion ,Especially FEAR! The bad news is you need a 512megs of ram more and a 6800 series card or Ati x850 pro to play these games at a decent frame rate. I suggest saving a little more money and buy a 7600gs or find a 6800gt used they go for 130.00$. or the one I linked above is also a very very good choice for 90.00$ here http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=45&threadid=1916055&enterthread=y

Edit: Buy video card first and then add ram later if your not happy with performance

I wouldn't say that, I have a 6600 AGP, and it plays Fear nicely, low settings anyways, but hey I knew I was gonna have to play it like that when I got it too...hehe. Quake 4 plays nicely too...the only thing I don't like about this card is the HEAT!! woooh..hot hot

I believe the 6600GT would be a better choice than the 7600GS, if in AGP that is.

the normal 6600 is MUCH better... last time i checked into it the 6600le has only 4 pipelines as opposed to the vanilla one having 8.

I have a PCI-E vanilla 6600, at stock speeds, and it has no problems with F.E.A.R., although I use no AA or AF. Quake 4 is half as hard on video cards as F.E.A.R., and it has absolutely no problems with Quake 4. Mine, btw, idles @37-38°C, in a 76°F room, although I have an 80mm side intake fan that I'm sure makes the difference.

Ok thanks for all the advice, I am ready to buy the Asus Extreme N6600/TD 128MB but how much do you think I can overclock it with rivatuner and the nvidia ntune?

Overclocking will make a 6600 very hot, but it is doable. At most I achieved a slight overclock of just 5%, pretty pathetic, but hey, its something right? lol
Anyway, consider getting an aftermarket VGA Cooler when overclocking along with some video ram heatsinks. Good Luck!
