stuck between a combo of about $400 in video card/hard drive , now i know the raptor might not be worth it but it will be either 6600GT + RAptor or a better video card and less expensive drive.. what would you suggest ?

thanks but i still dont know how far it is to go from a 6600gt to a 6800gt/800xl is there a high performance/price ratio?

edit: benchmarks tell me very little 🙁

What screen resolution? 6600GT starts to drop off in frames ps above 1024x768.

> edit: benchmarks tell me very little

The difference between the cards should be obvious at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. If you're happy with 1024x768, get the 6600GT, 250gig seagate 7200.8, and spend the leftover cash on games or more RAM.

Definitely get more RAM if you only have 512 MB instead of 1 GB.

> someone tell me y the raptor is so expensive to begin with..

because it spins really fast.

> based on that .. the 6600gt suks?? or is that just hl2..

yes, at 1600x1200 the 6600GT does not offer great performance

sry im not sure about the resolution but i think windows will operate under 1280x1024

ty i think i will buy a 800xl now but i guess i should do more research..

The raptor is 10,000 RPM and is alot faster than a normal 7200RPM Hard Drive. Get the Raptor and 6600GT and then in the future if you have the money upgrade to the new 7800.

I'd go with 6600GT and a 'normal' HD.
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, the 6600GT is a very strong card, it'll run windows at 1600x1200 easily (Duhaaaaa... :cookie: ), and heavy games will run great at 1024*768, which is probably the recomended resolution anyway, since most of the world (other than a couple of hardcore gamers) can not play at resolutions higher than that anyway.

edit: had to fix the cookie... mmuHAHA
