Now that's the 6600 & 6800 fever is gone, i am interested in upgrading my 9800pro to a 6600GT...

But with so many different brands, i can't really make a clear choice. I am asking to 6600 users if they can help me ?

My specs:
AMD64 3500+
Asus A8V deluxe
Samsung 4x512mb DDR400
2x36gb Raptors (Raid 0)
1x 60gb Maxtor
Antec 480W Trueblue PSU

So, i need a AGP8X card with a VGA output... i won't OC it or cool it with some HSF... i expect a little performance boost versus my 9800pro but i expect also to pay less than 300$CAD...

can you clearly recommend (or not) some brands ? and tell me why ?

I'd stick with the 9800 Pro, personally.

But to answer your question, the best 6600GTs are from MSI and Leadtek for overclocking performance and quality control. BFG is also looked well upon for the lifetime warranty and 24x7 support and small OC out of the box. EVGA is nice because they have a 90 day trade-up program in case you want to upgrade in a few months when something else comes out and they have a 2 year warranty. I really don't think it matters what you get so long as you get it from somewhere with a good return policy. If it artifacts are breaks within a month, send it back.....can happen even with the best brands.

Could you give some reason why you would stick with a 9800pro? It's a great card, but the 6600gt outperforms it in everything, even HL2, by around 10%-30%.

he would want to stick with it because the upgrade form a 9800 pro to a 6600gt would not be big enough to warrant a 200 dollar purchase. its gotta be 6800gt / x800xl and up or nothing really

No question is is better than the 9800Pro in every way. But I'd take that into account when buying one or the other, not when I already have one. It will cost him $60 or more to upgrade if he sells his 9800 Pro and I don't think he'll see $60 worth of performance gain. I'd put the $60 away and add $20 a month to it until I could afford a 6800GT or X800XL or wait a few months and see what happens.

That's my reasoning.

i think i'll wait a little longer... to see the next big thing on the videocard market and then upgrade for a 6800
