6600GT Unlockable?

ok i got a 6600GT for my brothers PC today and im quite happy with it but i wanna see howmuch better it will perform with any pipes unlocked. Iv'e installed the latest RivaTuner but im not too familiar on how to unlock it (if its posible to do??). Can anyone tell me exactly what to do?

Also what are the risks involved in this.

The card is a Albatron 6600GT running in a AthlonXP 2400+, 768MB RAM, Soltek DRV-4 Mobo.

Thanx!

You can't unlock a 6600GT (since it has no disabled pipelines in the 1st place) but you can overclock it if you want to push it further.

The previous posts are right on with the facts.

The 6600GT is exactly half of a 6800GT.

6800GT = 16 pipelines, 6 shaders.
6600GT = 8 pipelines, 3 shaders.

There is no unlocking that can be done.

It was engineered this way.

As mentioned, you can overclock. Your results may vary, so use caution as you attempt to overclock.

*DO NOT* just use someone elses overclocking results as a starting place.

My XFX Geforce 6600GT AGP goes from 500 core and 1000 memory up to 571 core and 1140 memory.

Every piece of hardware has it's quirks and each individual's card may overclock to different levels.

Good luck if you go this route.

You might be confusing your 6600GT with a 6800 non-ultra. The 6800 has the possibility of being "unlocked" with mixed results.

thaks for your replies. yeh i had the feeling it was only 6800 and up cards that can be unlocked coz there all the same base chip n board.

so is coolbits 2 good for overclocking? or rivatuner better?

Coolbits is just a registry hack that reveals hidden tweaks with nVidia drivers. It's simple no hassle. I haven't tried RivaTuner for a long time but I believe it's more complicated options than Coolbits. I would suggest you try both and make the decision yourself. Just depends on your preference.

Why is it better? Is it better at sensing optimal speeds or something? I used RivaTuner on my girlfriend's machine to unlock/overclock her 6800NU, but for my 6600GT it was super-easy to use Coolbits. I mean, if all you're doing is changing a couple of settings on the card, what does it matter?

for a 6600gt all you need is coolbits. Rivatuner can be complicated, and IMO it's mainly for softmodders like myself.

Riva Tuner running in the background eats some, if not all, of the performance you gain from overclocking, making it useless in my opinion...
