6600GT Temperatures . . .

I recently bought these components to create this mid-level gaming rig:
GigaByte K8NS - 939
AMD64 3000+ 1.8GHz CPU
Leadtek 6600GT-TDH (AGP)
Corsair XMS PC3200 TwinX 512x2
W/D 40GB
Now, I am geting unusally high temps from my 6600. I run Riva tuner to log my temps during gameplay, (no O/C'ing), and sometimes it reaches 92'C. I contacted both Leadtek, and nVidia concerning these temps, and they replied their recommendations for max load temps:
Leadtek: 85'C
nVidia : 90'C
I am running the latest nVidia drivers: 71.89, and I also have the latest drivers from GigaByte. I do have the recommended 1.5v to the 6600, as Leadtek suggested.
The stock clk speeds for this card is 500/900 3-D. I am told this is the same chipset that is in a PCI-X card and it runs at 500/1000.
I have a total of 5 fans: 1 front lower inlet, 1 side cover inlet, 1 rear case outlet, and the one that is in P/S. I then added another inside the case that blows directly across the 6600, about 1.5" away from it. It does draw heated air, but I thought the added airflow would help.
Ambient temp: 35'C
6600 temp(idle): 48'C
Any suggestions before I RMA this back to NewEgg?
I get these temps(peak) during benches and DOOM 3, and CS:S.

What case and what fans in that case?

seems like a huge jump from idle to load. why don't you use rthdribl and monitor it thru the nvidia control panel. is it artifacting at all?

The case is an X-Blade, There are three existing fans, plus the P/S fan. I added another fan blowing directly on the vid card. All are 80mm. Two inlet, and 1 exhaust,(plus the ps fan exhaust). No artifacts, I am only running it at stock spds: 500/900
I'll try whatever taht was you said, but I run RivaTuner now, and it monitors the temps in the background while playing games. I have real-time logs for anytime its on.

I tried the whatever you call it program, and my temps rose from 49'C to 91'C before I turned it off. No artifacts, even at 500/1000.

I used to have a 6600gt and I had the same problem! It would idle at 58c:Q and then get up to 83c. I RMA's and got a X800XL 48C idle and 67 load!!!!! In the same case! It was even the LEADTEK model like yours! it must be a defect!

yeah, i'd be unhappy with that kind of jump even if it isn't artifacting although some people will probably tell you that temp is ok under load.

my only other suggestion would be to make sure the cooler is fastened down tightly on the card. other than that, i'd get a new one.

I think that your temperatures are normal.

I checked before at work, GF6600GT temperatures from two card, Leadtek (AGP) and Gainward (PCI-E), by running Masaki Kawase's rthdribl v.1.2 for graphic card and Prime95 torture test on the backround. I checked temperatures via nVidia's control panel.

Leadtek's maximum GPU temperature was 92 C and Gainward's 88 C.

If your graphic card would be too hot, then you would get graphic errors, blue screens or error messages.

I'm pretty sure that's fine. My Evga 6600GT gets to around 85 degrees celcius at 540/1102.
